Over the years I've worked out at
several gyms in Portland. Hollywood Fitness--formerly Giant's Gym--is by far my favorite. I've been a member for several years, and I'll be coming back for a long time.
Why do I love this gym?
1. Fantastic weight room for resistance training. It has every machine you could want, tons (literally) of free weights, and lots of other tools such as resistance bands. The weight room also happens to be one of the coolest spaces in all of Portland--it's huge, with an exposed high ceiling of wooden rafters.
2. Open 24/7.
3. Cost is reasonable, and service is attentive and personal.
If you're looking for a place to work out, whether for resistance, cardio, or classes, give it a try.
Great gym. Plenty of space and lost of machines. Excellent and friendly staff.
If you are looking for a great local alternative to the big box gyms then look no further! I have been a member for years at Hollywood Fitness and it just keeps on getting better. They just added Group Fitness on Demand! That means that you can get a class 24 hours a day on a ginormous 10 foot screen. (And instuctors for many more too, including Zumba). I love the atmosphere, casual, cool vibe. Not a meat market, or meat heads. Really a portland neighborhood in the best sense. And oh yeah, they're open 24 hours a day and I work nights, so Jeff is here til like midnight and they have a staff here for graveyard for cleaning. I appreciate a clean gym and they take it very seriously. Free workout towels, plenty of parking, and I swear the biggest weight room you have ever seen! I know I'm rambling, but after being at other places, I love Hollywood Fitness (used to be Giants Gym). Okay, one more thing, Activtrax. How about a program that customizes a workout, drops it on your smart phone, and changes it every time you come in?? Yeah, I love it too.
Now Even Better!. I have watched the gym grow over the last year to become even better. The owner has added more cardio, expanded and now has classes, the Active Trak system is better, towels, and the employees are trained, care, and seem to always be cleaning or helping someone. It really makes you want to support your local gym when they earn it and give you more than you expect. thanks giants gym!
GLAD TO BE BACK!.
I have to admit that I was wooed by one of the big box clubs with glitz. Well, that wore off fast. Crowded gym, no parking, loud, and no help.
So, Giants Gym, I AM BACK! And they are better than ever. New classes, more equipment, great prices, a staff that knows you by name, always cleaning, and NOT crowded. There is a casual, comfortable vibe to the gym, and they still have everything you need.
So glad to support a local gym that really earns it!!
Love The Trainers!.
I don't do the tweet, blog, text thing but HAD to write a review about my experience at Giants Gym.
I spent a LOT of money at a mega gym and they were more interested in my credit card limit than me......I know, I should have known...duh.
I am getting training at the gym for about twenty bucks a session, three times a week, a free membership with classes, towels, and a laid back, not crowded, helpful atmosphere. Love the bird,Buddy (they have a parrot at the counter), and the staff has been great. Lots of free parking, and clean, clean, clean!
No Meat Market or High Pressure.
I moved here a few months ago and was looking for a personal trainer. I used to have a great one that motivated me, but my budget is tighter here in Portland. Giants gym allowed me to have a membership, get training twice a week (with David, he's awesome), and still save money! It has everything I need, is close, open all of the time, and friendly.
And I like the fact that the owner is there, knows your name, and is not pushy.
Great New Programs!.
I had looked at Giants Gym a few years ago before I went away for college, but I wanted classes. I checked them out last month and WOW!, they added a new class area, a sports injury clinic, and great classes!
The owner turned me onto the Active Traks program, and It is so cool, it drops the workout on to my iphone.
Really easy. Low key, friendly, and helpful. Best of all, not a meat market!
Great Members, Staff, and Atmosphere!. I just read that last "review"and know that was from an ex employee...who doesn't get the philosophy behind Giants Gym. Give great service, respect every member, help inspire and teach, and go beyond expectations. I have been a member for 12 years and have watched the gym grow, adding equipment, programs, and when the owner takes time to know your name, send a card when you are sick, or even help out when I had financail problems, Just try to get that somewhere else!
NEW OWNERS NEEDED.
Makes you wonder whats going on when you hear that the employees are not payed on a regular basis... As for the AC, one would think that when the gym gets over 80deg they would turn on the AC...... Oh yeah, if you enjoy running out of hot water, plan on showering at the gym.............
Heaven forbid the owners dont like you! "Kick them out" "Cancel their membership".... Nothing like hearing the owners during a temper tantrum...........
