Seattle-based coffee chain lures caffeine addicts with upscale roasts, caramel frappuccinos, shaken iced teas and an extra shot of trendiness.. In Short
For many, getting their daily jolt of java has become a daily morning ritual, and the cardboard cup with its infamous green label is the close companion of every coffee aficionado. Busy baristas work seamlessly behind the bar, juggling orders for their strongly-brewed drips and signature hot and cool beverages. While providing a wide selection of coffee specialties, pastries and various coffee related goods, patrons are invited to settle down in comfy armchairs and enjoy their favorite brews amid the chatter of the laidback yet caffeinated crowd.  View Less View More

Get Over It, Hawthornites. For those of you who have a knee-jerk reaction to the word "Starbucks," read this review as if this were just a little unnamed coffee shop. This is a comfortable corner coffee shop in the heart of the Hawthorne neighborhood. It's got a fairly quiet, relaxed atmosphere, really good, strong coffee, and some of the friendliest baristas ever. Now, how would that sound to you if you didn't know it was a "big evil Starbucks"? Pretty good! I love the indie coffee shops as much as the next native Portlander; but I'm not going to turn my nose up at a good coffee spot simply because it bears the Starbucks logo. If you can get past your self-righteousness and face the truth - this place serves tasty coffee - you'll find this a nice little spot in which to take a java break. (If you're still having issues overcoming your snobbery, you should note, this is a "historical" Starbucks and was here long before the brand became so terribly politically incorrect.)  View Less View More

Why?. Why on earth would you go here when there are half a dozen local independent coffee shops within six blocks? Walk a few blocks east to Common Grounds or Fresh Pot, or up to Belmont for Muddy Waters or Pied Cow. If you don't feel like walking, at least cross the street and go to Peet's instead, it's also corporate but it's still better than *$s.  View Less View More
