I have long sung the praises of the Daily Grind bakery -- the vegan biscuits are soft, sweet, dairy-free doughballs of heaven, and the scones are more special-treat--sweet than cake. The deli on the north side of the building, though not as perenially awesome, has at least offered a tasty tofu ball or two. The market, however, is just bad. Just awful. The produce and dried goods are often 25-50% more expensive than that of similar markets and co-ops around town, while often being smaller, older, and quite tasteless. What you do find that is actually fresh is often moldy or shrivelled up and must be composted within a COUPLE of DAYS. I'm tired of spending twice as much on my weekly goods as, say, Food Front, while having only half as long to actually consume it. I consider myself one cool, organic-lovin', locally-grown--eatin', bus-takin' broad, but it seems if I don't want bland, bad food, I have to continue riding all the way across town to get it. So it goes.

I've always been very impressed with the Daily Grind, for several reasons. The selection of organic produce, a fair variety of (mostly organic) bulk items and a large assortment of natural food items. However, what draws me to this store the most is their baked goods section: they actually bake everything FRESH right on site! I recommend trying the *enormous* vegan ginger cookies and everything else baked there because it is ALL so tasty!

You can get great vegan baked goods at the Daily Grind. They also have a fresh foods deli - Yummy and Healthy to pick up at the end of a long day. Its always worth a try if you like old fashion cooperatives.
