I have long sung the praises of the Daily Grind bakery -- the vegan biscuits are soft, sweet, dairy-free doughballs of heaven, and the scones are more special-treat--sweet than cake. The deli on the north side of the building, though not as perenially awesome, has at least offered a tasty tofu ball or two. The market, however, is just bad. Just awful. The produce and dried goods are often 25-50% more expensive than that of similar markets and co-ops around town, while often being smaller, older, and quite tasteless. What you do find that is actually fresh is often moldy or shrivelled up and must be composted within a COUPLE of DAYS. I'm tired of spending twice as much on my weekly goods as, say, Food Front, while having only half as long to actually consume it. I consider myself one cool, organic-lovin', locally-grown--eatin', bus-takin' broad, but it seems if I don't want bland, bad food, I have to continue riding all the way across town to get it. So it goes.
Pros: Good prepared food, surprising variety of natural remedies
Cons: Awful bulk food, lacking customer service

I was very happy to find the Daily Grind-- a mid sized locally run market with some great deals! It truly has some features that are not found in other natural groceries in the area. First off, their produce is all organic and mostly local-- and I have found that the prices are always either lower or equal to other markets (usually lower!) Also they have a large bulk food selection and again, the prices are competitive. The shining star of the store is their excellent bakery. All you have to do is try something and you will be impressed. They have many vegan items in their bakery too. Great service and very cool atmosphere!
Pros: awesome bakery, bulk/produce, local items
Cons: no alcohol
