Editorial Review for Esparza's Tex Mex Cafe – by Bonnie Martin Fazio

In Short
This kitschily decorated joint--stuffed snakes, animal skulls and marionettes--is a popular spot for locals seeking out inexpensive Mexican fare. Lunches and early dinners are not as crowded, but it's almost always packed during regular dinner hours. Mexican favorites, including tacos and enchiladas, and more exotic dishes are available. The Texas Ranger pork loins stuffed with napolitos (cactus) and meats like ostrich, boar and buffalo, are popular choices. Margaritas are big, flavorful and potent.

I go here often because the food is interesting and exciting. The staff is always A+ without exception. Now it may be too spicy for some, which would explain the odd negative reviews seen here. Some may have difficulty with the bold tastes at Tex Mex. I like the meat dishes which are hearty. Also the chips are the best I've had anywhere in the world. If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant that is much MORE than the standard beans, rice and overcooked meat we find everywhere else, try Esparza's.

Pros: truly exciting

Cons: none

1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

Let's see: the margarita tasted like urine, the portions were small, flavorless and spendy for the ingredients used, the decor was visual odious (like animal carcases, caricatures of lazy mexicans in sombreros etc) The service was friendly and swift but good grief was this THE WORST food and place ever! It's perfect for someone who maybe thinks good Mexican is Taco Del Mar. All around gross

Pros: the waitstaff was friendly

Cons: awful food, limited vegetarian options, tacky decor, maragritas from the bowels of hell
