What Our Expert Scouts Say

My Father's Place
April 08, 2013

At My Father's Place the menu is more. My Father's Place remains a Portland institution because they open early, close late, and pour it stiff. Folks come in droves for the no-rules atmosphere and chicken-fried steak.

Nasty, grimy, punk bar that's loud, full of kids, bad food and horrible lighting. Yeeeeaaaahahhhhhh that's the real deal. I like to play pool there and get back in touch with my badass roots.

Horrible service with death threats from a hipster bartender. Horrible service from a dramatic male bartender. This guy was out of line and shouldn't be allowed to work with the public. I was coming to My Fathers Place every weekend, but no longer. The bartender last Saturday 8/13/11 was allowing his friends to sit at the bar and openly insult people at the bar. They were trying to pick fights. The bartender cracked jokes with them and thought it was funny. After 20 minutes of ignoring the verbal abuse my friend went to talk to them to say something. The bartender suddenly yelled "get out"! it came out of no where. my friend left and I tried to finish my beer still being verbally assaulted by the bartenders friends. I just glared at them. Finally I asked wtf their problem was and the bartender boosted me. I was shocked and angry! What was the bartenders problem?

An hour later I called to complain and was hung up on. I called back again and received death threats from the bartender. He told me he would kill me. This was insane for someone who works with the public. BEWARE of this place!!!! The guy looks like a hipster posing yuppie from the Midwest. These people should stay out of Oregon. I'm very disappointed with this once great establishment!

The only consideration from the owner should be to boot his butt to the street for these horrific unprofessional acts of iimmaturity.

This is my favorite hangout spot in Portland.. The title says it all. Great food, strong drinks, friendly staff, trivia, pool... Couldn't ask for more!

Best Hang out. Heath is the best waiter/bartender there!!!! Seriously they are all great?=) Always prompt on seating, smoking is a welcome treat. If you don?t want to smell like an ash tray after 5 minutes, don?t come here. MFP is the trademark term when you?re a regular. Crowd is mixed, gay, straight, biker, grunge, punk, business. Juke box is cheaper than most places, great atmosphere even if you come by yourself.

Awesome find. My neighbor just recommended this place since I was having cravings for pancakes. I'm so glad I went. This place rocks. It's decent food with cheap prices. I'll definitely go here again.

fun place. One of my favorite places in Portland to spend a few hours. The menu is super affordable, and they have some of my favorite pinball machines. Really unique and comfortable atmosphere. I always recommend this place to friends! Oh, and they have pool tables too.

Love it.. Great food and great service. The decor is original and keeps one wondering where they found all that stuff. This is the best ruben sandwich I have ever eaten.

Great Customer Service, Great Food. This place wow! It looks like a hole in the wall place but when you step in it it is clean and the waitress was very cordial and always making sure we had everything or asking if we need anything. The food is great and very good and very filling too.

I would go back. All I can say it is a great place to eat.

to go. do not order anything to go from this place of business

they will refuse you any future business if you do not leave a tip even after paying the 0.50 cents a meal to go charge

they would much rather insist on a minimum %8 tip than sell you a meal even though they have no current policy on tipping

yes, that would be a total of 0.44 cents on a $5.50 hamburger

WOW!. When you first walk in, you think you're in a dive restaurant. I was really impressed with the service I recieved here. Not only was the food way cheap, but the waiter was fantastic! He was polite, and made sure we had everything we needed, instead of acting like he was too busy. He even chased us down the street when I had left my sunglasses on the table. The food was not very original, but im glad I found this place.
