Great food, good service, good pricing. I love the food here. The Mango chicken, Won Ton soup, Noodle soup, shrimp with pea pods...I could go on. We eat here often and are never disappointed. Reasonable pricing. Good service. Try it you'll like it!

Our absolute favorite Asian restaurant!. Thanh Thao is our number one favorite Asian (Viet Thai) restaurant anywhere. The family owners are some of the friendliest we've run into and generally great service. The absolute "must haves" off the dinner menu include-- consistently tasty Red, or Green Curry Chicken Soup (the Chicken Sour Soup is also incredible), an appetizer of Larb Gai (a kind of cabbage/lettuce wrap much better than PF Chang), Penang Curry with chicken or tofu, Mango Chicken, Thanh Thai Special Chicken (their version of General Tso), the Whole Fried Fish and Salted Squid (2nd only to Thien Hong's in Portland). If you are a Phad Thai craver-- I think that is only average. We usually ask for a dinner menu any time we go. You'll get excellent value for your money. Their lunch menu is a basic American-Asian looking selection of specials you might find at any similar restaurant for about $5-6. If for some reason you experience the restaurant on an off day (very rare but I notice one recent reviewer had a bad day), I really encourage you to try it again.

No thank you. This place was recommended to me a couple times so I tried it last night while in the neighborhood. I found it to be sub-par at best. The decor is cheesy and it looks dirty. The wait staff was friendly, I'll give them that. And I don't really mind the environment if the food is good. We got the peanut chicken and Mussaman Curry with beef. The peanut chicken was burnt, literally char marks all over. The chicken was fatty and full of gristle and even a piece of bone. I had higher hopes for the curry but when it was served it looked like beef stew from a can. It was thick and gelatinous with chewy, shaved pieces of beef. There was no discernible coconut flavor in the dish and in actuality tasted more like baby food. I was completely disgusted. The servings were monstrous though, so if you're into bad Thai food, you can have your fill. Given the number of great Thai restaurants in Portland there's really no reason to dabble in this lacking endeavor. I will not be going back.

GREAT FOOD, GREAT PRICES. I had lunch here recently and it was great. The lunch special comes with soup, won ton, spring roll, white or fried rice and your choice of main dishes from a list of probably 20-25 main dishes, all for $5.75! My main dish was the Thanh Special Chicken (similar to General Tso's chicken) and it was super. The service was great and the food was wonderful. My friends both had the noodle bowl with barbecue pork and shrimp and raved about it. In fact, the lady sitting behind us wanted to know what that was so she could order it. Highly recommended and I will go back!

best food, super cheap. I love this place. The food is always so delicious and the servers are always very quick & nice. Favorite foods are the chicken & green beans, and the eggplant with garlic sauce is out of this world.

Delicious. I love Thanh Thao. The menu is has a variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. The hot and sour soup is delicious. They will make food to order. Dishes are plentiful and I always go home with a to-go carton. The service is friendly. Its a casual atmosphere and works well for a group, solo or duo dining. Enjoy!

Good if you like chicken. The eggplant with garlic sauce is addictive, and I like this place now that I'm not a vegetarian anymore. However, when I was a vegetarian, on more than one occasion I ordered mock-chicken and was served chicken. They were not at all sorry, did not offer to replace the meal, and insisted on charging full price. That's a lot of nerve! They also do use MSG - I have had reactions to this from the soup, but not from the main dishes. Stick with the dishes that you know, and make sure it's gluten and not chicken!

The soup, it's called Tom Kah, and it's awesome.. I just finished a large "to go" container of the Tom Kah soup, and I feel amazingly high. Thanh Thao is one of the original Thai places in town, it's not a chain, and it is owned by people who know the food and culture. It's not in the best fancy building. It's not westernized with mood lighting and american music. It's real. and real good. I go there to get great Thai cuisine. Don't forget to customize the spice level...

Great Hot & Sour soup!. Great place if you like soup. Also a great value for the lunch. I've never eaten here any other time however the menue looks pretty good for dinner. And, for how great the lunch is, I'm almost positive this would be a great place for any meal, even breakfast, if they were open!

Lunch Paradise. Monday Wednesday Thursday or Friday....make this your lunch spot. From 11-2:30 on these days, the lunch special is amazing at only $5.50. You get tea, spring roll, wonton, soup, rice, and main dish. Try the beef and broccoli, you will not be disappointed. Background music is great, and the staff are some of the nicest I have ever experienced. Truly a gem.
