Don't bother..
They do what they do, and don't really pay much attention.
The food was ok. The service was ok. The price was ok.
The best I can say is, it wasn't terrible.
If you want ok food and service, this is the place.
If you want good or better, go somewhere else.…
Disappointing. I called first to see if they take reservations and was assured that they do. After finally finding a place to park several blocks away on a Saturday evening, the three of us walked into a crowded restaurant and were greeted with a puzzled look concerning our reservation. (Uh-oh, not getting off to a good start here.) When we were finally seated in the noisy and relatively small, bare room, the service was glacially slow. Even after the place began to empty out, the service remained sloooow. Everything was ala carte---even the naan cost extra. The food was fairly tasty, but the portions were small and not worth the price being charged for them. We went into this debacle wanting to like the place, but the bottom line is that for what you get, we have eaten in far better Indian restaurants in the Portland metro area.…
Dine at your own risk. I could have literally copied and pasted large sections of several bad reviews after having the worst dining experience in Portland. People tend to only write reviews when they have something bad to say and readers tend to accept it as an isolated incident. I should have read more of the reviews and heeded the warnings. My fiancee and I arrived early on a Saturday night with 2/3 of the tables empty. We were promptly seated, but noticed the staff was more interested in seating more new customers than actually taking our order. We tried to get their attention, but ended up watching the wait staff take the orders of ALL the new customers before us. Half an hour went by before they even asked us what we wanted. By then most of the newer patrons (larger and smaller parties) had already received their food. Another half hour went by with no appetizers or drink refills and for the first time ever, we made the uncomfortable decision to actually walk out of a restaurant. On our way to the door we were courteous enough to tell the front desk we were leaving and why. One guy started arguing that the food was ready as the lady behind the desk gave us the "stink eye". We should have kept on walking, but decided to sit back down. The food came and then our appetizer afterward. The waiter said the time stamps of when the order was received in the kitchen and the time to cook it was reasonable, while we calmly explained our lack of service in getting that order to the kitchen while others around were not ignored. He made some illogical excuses and didn't bother to offer a discount or apology. Instead of rectifying the situation and satisfy the customer, he was more argumentative and defensive. As far as the food, my Chicken Tika Masala tasted ok, but was tiny. My fiancee's Saag Aloo was also a small portion and didn't even fit the description on the menu. The Naan tasted like dry bland soda bread and was not nearly as flavorful as other Indian restaurants. I actually gave them $1 tip, but feel like that was too generous. While most people around us seemed to get ok service and there are several good reviews on this site, be warned that things often go badly and the staff won't care. We will never go there again and will not recommend this to anyone we like...…
GROSS!.
This restaurant is GROSS. If you saw into their kitchen, you'd never eat there again. Open containers of spices and nuts attract critters (just watch the dumpster behind the building and you'll see
they crawl right back under the building). I'd write more details, but this website is telling me the words I wish to use are inappropriate... I guess being honest isn't allowed on citysearch.
Really, honestly, run away.…
Great Indian food, nice new spot on Belmont.
Met at India Oven's new location on 34th & Belmont for ladies night. We each picked a meal and appetizer and shared them all.
Everything tasted great, and came in generous portions. Their naan is always fabulous, but wanted to try the garlic naan, which I'm glad I did, it also had cilantro, which was the perfect complement to the spicy garlic - YUM.
We ordered the Chicken Biriyani, Chicken Masala, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka (apparently we're chicken fans)... it was all amazing, and the open-air feel (they have huge windows that slide open), was perfect for a warm summer night.…
