What Our Expert Scouts Say

Excalibur Books & Comics
April 30, 2013

If your only prior experience with this Hawthorne comic shop is eyeing the Wolverine silhouette in the window and wishing it was actually Hugh Jackman, stop in and have a look around. The immaculately organized stands and shelves are a collector's paradise, but it's also fun browsing for those who remember how exciting getting the new Betty & Veronica digest was once upon a time.

Too! Many! Comics!. This place is amazing! Excalibur boasts the largest back stock inventory of comic books in the northwest and, after being there, it's hard to believe otherwise. All the comics are neatly bagged and their several tables of long boxes are clearly organized. They painted and remodeled since last time I was in, adorning the place with new shelves and tables and the place looks great. The staff is always very helpful and informative. The guy working when I was there was more interested in making sure I got something I would enjoy rather than pushing whatever was "hot" that week. The staff are really well-versed in their comics, always adding some tidbit of information here or making a suggestion there. If anything, they were too helpful, because now I don't have enough money to buy all the things I want. I will definitely have to go back!

its okay. Pros: its nice thats it is organized alphabeticly and not by company or something like that.

I have been to all of portlands comic stores and this may be the best.

the prices are like they should be (the price by the barcode)and its even the same with back issues so thats convienyent.

Cons:If you get a box subscription they are very strict and mess up often(they will put somthing in your box that you did not ask for and you have to buy it).

the employies are not very polite to you.

if you dont come in once a month to pick up your comics they get testy and may even take off your discount(if you have one)

speaking of which takes forever to get if you are a person who doesn't feel like spending 40-50 dollers on comic books.

they dont have variants which really stinks.

even though i said its the best its like the best of the average.

but thats about it i hope this helped you.

Holy Back-Issues, Batman!. Excaliber Comics is the Best Comic Store I have visited since I moved to Portland. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have a great selection of 80's and 90's comics. Their Bronze Age selection has some holes, as does their Silver and Golden Age Collections, albeit to a much greater degree. The prices are fair, but you will not find any steals. They have a great pre-order service, and a spacious, nuerotically organized sales floor. They are not Mile High Comics yet, but lord they are trying...

On a side note, I do not understand the whole Duck in King Arthur's Court thing...
