The BEST I could ever have!!!.
Well, I finally got my first tattoo, and I did ALL my home work BEFORE having the procedure done. I went to several of the local shops and looked at everything from the staff,to their level of talent and experience, to the cleanliness and skill. I have to say, in the end, I chose Captain Jacks, and I couldnt be more thrilled with my outcome!!! I LOVE my tattoo! It was a real challenge, I know, but Sean, Jerry and Less knew exactly how to handle my idea and did so with such ease and professionalism!! (EVERYONE wants to know where I had it done!!) I want to thank all of the staff there for the talent, skill and passion for their work, that was put into my idea, as it is better than I even thought it could be! I was treated so good, made to feel comfortable, and all aftercare instructions explained in such detail! I am SO glad this is the final, educated choice I made, because my tattoo is one of a kind, top of the line, supreme art work!!! The healing is now done, and oh my GOD!!! It surpasses ALL the hopes and desires I came in with! I thank all of you for such a great piece of art!!! I also want to thank Morgan, as he is now officially my piecer!! He pierced an area that I was a little shy to have exposed, and he made me feel totally comfortableand at ease with his friendly and professional attitude and was so good at completing the task with alomost no pain and it is EVERYTHING I hoped that it would be!! I love the jewlery you helped me pick out too, it is truely original and classy!! Thank you Morgan!!!

So happy i found this place!!. Just moved to portland not long ago and started looking for a good shop.. I went into several shops to talk about getting some work, one guy told me they were booked out 3 months yet the 2 artists there were sittin around doin nothin the whole time i was there.. The next shop i went to only had one artist named willow and her the tattoos in her portfolio were so horrible she'd have been better off hiding that thing somewhere.. or finding another job.. Anyway now to get to my point.. Then i found Cpt. Jacks which is right on hawthorne.. The guys were super cool and helpful.. Morgan the piercer re-pierced my septum for me and got it strait unlike the last chick that did it (in new mexico), and i've got an appointment with sean to get tattooed next week..! and my appointment is next week not in 3 months.
Great Artists and Great Personalities. I've been going to Captain Jack's for several years now. Jerry is phenominal and always makes the effort to listen, suggest, and never criticize any idea for your tattoo. Everyone we've delt with has been great. Every one of my pieces of art has a uniqueness to it that I'm proud to call mine.
Poor tattooing, not recommended at all!.
I went to Captain Jack's for my first tattoo- it took him 25 minutes to do a small, black infinity sign. It's raised, and much of it flaked off, although I took very good care of it.
My roommate got one as well, a small word. It too mostly flaked off, and is raised, although not as much as mine.
The place was clean, with lots of art to choose from- and that was the only plus.
Otherwise, they were terrible. Unfriendly, bad artists, bad experience completely.
Oh so very worth the time and money!.
My friend and I had decided to get matching heart tattoos(cheesy I know) and had tried other shops only to get laughed and turned down. We then found Captain Jacks and i now go to Sean for all my tattooing needs. From my first impression walking in the door two years ago, i knew this place was it for me. Sean greeted us, listened to our idea and elaborated on it redrawing it three times until we loved it. He took it from a silly heart and made it into a classy memento. A few months after that my Mom was coming to visit and I somehow convinced her to get one with me. I went a week ahead and explained what we might want so he could work up a custom design. What he came up with was perfect. My Mom was really nervous before going but when she walked into the extremely clean, friendly shop she relaxed. It was her first(and she said only) tattoo and the experience couldn't have been better. After that I started talking about a back piece with Sean. He worked with me and somehow managed to draw up exactly what i wanted from my vague description of "Um, I think I want something with rainbow hearts , bats and maybe some glittery stars?" I really can't draw so I am very happy he can. My back piece progressed beautifully over about a year and is now making its way down my arm.Everyone at this shop is super friendly and ridiculously talented. I always love seeing what Jerry and Steve are working. Every artist is so different its really cool to see the differences in their portfolios and watch the live art happening. Everything is obsessively cleaned and sanitized in the shop. I don't take advantage of the fact that they take walk-in's but it is the only shop with good artists i know of that does. I usually make my appointments about a week or two in advance, not having to wait 2 months for awesome work is really nice. And, as a plus, the guys that work there are not bad to look at. Thanks guys! I found my artist for life, go find yours at Captain Jacks Tattoo Studio.
Horrible place to go to. i got my first tattoe.. it was a kanji symbol on my right side of my lower back.. well the guy that did it FU&^ed it so bad . i have crazy scar tissue due to the guy presing to hard.. it is raised and you can run your hand over it and its bumpy. so i waited a year to go back in to make sure it was completly healed and have them touch it up well the pain was so bad i passd out and they only got to touch up half of it cause i started to sweel really bad.. please people only go there for peircing i can say theydo that right.. the company didnt give my momeny back or offer me afree tat. the guy was fired so when i went in the couldnt do anything.. im very dissapionted wit this place...
Best piercing I've ever had!. I have had several piercings over the years and I always have to remove them, due to infection, or pain, etc. I recently had my snug pierced at Captain Jack's by a great piercer named Morgan. I wanted something unique that I wouldn't see on a million other chicks and Morgan recommended this cool inner ear piercing. I love it! I was so impressed by the fact that the piercing was basically painless. I was really nervous due to the fact that there is a lot of cartilage in the inner ear, but he talked me through it and before I knew it it was over. It has healed beautifully and I can't wait to go back and see what else I can get! I highly recommend getting a your piercings by Morgan at Captain Jack's!
Great personal attention and great tattoos!. Jerry did my tattoo and did a wonderful job! it looks great, not faded, and was not painful at all. I would totally go back there again. VERY CLEAN. I was impressed with how clean the shop was and how they use throw away needles.
Super Friendly But I'm NOT Going Back.
Despite the name of the place it's really quite comfortable there. The guys working that day were busy but friendly and it was all good. HOWEVER I'm so disappointed with my tattoo. I did everything that was asked with my aftercare but the truth is I just got a bad tattoo.
I knew something was wrong when my tattoo had a major scab & red streaks around it. A friend of mine who is practically the tattooed lady was even concerned. I went back to the shop & was told to let it dry out. I did. Keep in mind this a very small tattoo about the size of a quarter and not my first tat by any means.
After almost 2 months of healing it looks old already. My skin is deeply wrinkled with some random dark dots (that hurt if pressed on) in the middle of the blue color. And some white spots are in there too. It's a shame because I really wanted to like this place but I cannot go back. It's been suggested that the guy who did my tattoo pressed too hard into my skin with his needle. *sigh*
