In Short – Frequented by a devoted crowd seeking real Mexican food for a few pesos, this spot's no-frills decor features a fast-food-style counter, plastic booths, a sombrero on the wall and a sign stating its dedication to fresh ingredients. The namesake burrito features plump chili relleno, carne asada and pinto beans. The Machaca burrito has tangy shredded beef with scrambled eggs and cheese. The chicken, carnitas and charbroiled steak tacos come with fresh cilantro, tomato and punchy salsas.
new ownership / not loco

My two friends and I went to dine here back in April or March of this year. The original owners were packing up and were very sad. I am not sure what happened exactly but they told us they were being totally screwed by the building owner and they were pretty much being forced out. It was very sad indeed. I went to try the new place in the summer and it was pretty good. I prefer la serinita or la bonita on Alberta but it was not bad.
- Pros: location
- Cons: potential bad karma from takeover
No Longer El Burrito Loco

New owners have taken over the space. El Burrito Loco's lease was not renewed and the new company is not in the same league as the previous tenants. Will not be back!
Tasty Mexican goodness

Yes, Portland isn't San Francisco. We know California has good burritos. I was born and raised there. Big forkin' whoop - we're talking about Oregon, Geeves. So let's clarify: If you are in Portland (and you'd have to be to eat here) and you want to eat some legit Mexican food, this place is good. I'd call it a 'greasy-spoon' Mexican restaurant. If you want fruity "wraps" (gasp) or other health food, go somewhere else. The Carnitas is good. The Chicken is my favorite. And the chips are always warm.
It's also totally cheap. I am a HUGE connoisseur of Mexican food and burritos (see: California) and this certainly answers the need. And it's a friggin drive-through. What's better than that? Nothing, that's what. I'm not crazy about their salsas, but they are workable. Now, if my friend hadn't told me about this place, I never would have gone there. It looks unremarkable, it's a drive-through(!) and it's across the street from a drive-through pizza place that SURELY doesn't serve what we know as "food". But don't let that stop you. Now you know. Tasty, mildly greasy goodness.
