Adequate hotel just steps from a convenient light rail.. In Short
There are a few affordable motels in this neighborhood of fast food chains, and this convenient one is close to I-5 and has a light rail to downtown running right out front. The one-story property is on a busy street. But there's cable TV to crank up and friendly restaurants and fun bars within walking distance. It's a good to stop if you're traveling through Portland via the interstate.

ahoy from Minnesota. We happened to find this hotel while stopping for gas off I-5 south, of all the motels on this street, we were impressed to stay here. All was great here, even the fact that the MAX runs along the same street. Some might say that causes all the Noise, but not as much noise as one would expect. We were offered and stayed in #1 room, it is definitely #1. The owners/management did everything to accomodate us also. They provided a sense of security also. Hats off to them, we shall stay here anytime we visit. Check it out for value and comfort.

A shining example of what a motel should be!. All of the other motels along North Interstate Ave. (and there are dozens along the strip) are sleazy, marginally clean and secure, and run down. The Monticello is staffed by presentable, professional, kind people. The room was spacious and clean, and included a modest kitchen! All for the same price as The Palms where my outer door wouldn't lock and the toilet seat wasn't firmly attached. The Monticello is my choice for excellent value for anyone traveling to Portland. And it's on the Max!!

Ask for the room at the south end of the building. But perhaps they're all that nice.
