Portland >Atomic Art Tattoo Studio
Roll Hardy=Radical artist and an even better guy. I went to Roll with roughly 1 million ideas for what I wanted for two tattoos. He was incredibly patient and allowed me to have complete control over the sketching and final outcome of the tattoos. His quick and expert sketches translated into beautiful, detailed and healthy tattoos. He was very light handed, which cut down on the pain factor, and also joked and told stories throughout the tattoo, which made it a fun and memorable experience. Still after 4 years, I am constantly completmented on my professional and gorgeous tattoos. Since then, I have referred several people to Roll, with all kinds of styles of tattoos and he has proved to be extremley versatile and friendly to each of my friends, leaving them with permanent reminders of what a great artist Roll Hardy is. I highly recommend him and this clean, professional and awesome tattoo shop.
An Amazing Custom Tattoo Experience. When I moved to Portland the thing I missed most was my tattoo artist. For the first year I traveled out of town to finish up the work I had, but I knew that could only go on for so long before I'd have to break down and find someone new. This is a great town with a lot of people sporting some amazing work. I began to ask, "Hey, who did your work?" way too often and was met with a multitude of responses. One morning while out to breakfast my eyes fell upon the most beautiful sleeve I had ever seen. When I asked the girl where she got it she came back with Roll's cell phone number for me. It just so happened they were roommates. One late afternoon phone call and a trip to visit Roll and it all began. I've spent many hours under his gentle hand and when he moved to Atomic it made the experience that much better. Everyone who works there is kind and laid-back, the place is impeccably clean, and all of the artists are incredibly talented. I have recommended Roll, and Atomic, to literally hundreds of people and of those who I know have had work done there none have been disappointed. I highly recommend Roll and Atomic for those who are looking for a positive custom tattoo experience.
If you are doing your homework..
If you are doing your homework than you have found one of the premier tattoo shops in Portland.
my experience at Atomic is the best i could ever ask for. For example just walking to the front door
of the shop you see that the place is well kept like a Japanese garden, starting from the outside in. Inside the shop is the same clean and inviting atmosphere you would expect to see at a premier shop like Atomic. The artists, and I stress ARTIST, are award winning, friendly and intuitive to your needs. I have about 40 to 45 hours with Roll Hardy and have had the opportunity have AMAZING art put on my chest and arms. This is a shop for people who are experienced at getting tattooed and people getting their first tattoo.
Fine art to wear!. I heard of Atomic from a friend. She and her husband had AWESOME work done by one of their artists, Roll Hardy. First my husband made an appointment and would end up coming back 7 times. Then our friends and family followed suit. ROLL IS AN AMAZING ARTIST! They all are amazing at the shop. I highly recommend that if you can appreciate great art and are looking for some to wear, visit ATOMIC TATTOO!
If you are looking for body ART then this is your place!. What can I say? Roll is an artistic genius! I needed a piece to celebrate my monumental cross country move to the great Pacific Northwest. Roll translated my words, emotions, and a few choice elements into the most amazing artistic expression of EXACTLY how I feel about being here. He really listened to me and let me lead the direction of the tattoo. He was patience and thorough and to this day, I'm still as excited about it as the second he put the mirror in my hand! What an incredibly positive experience. I won't go anywhere else but Atomic Art!
my hero. When i first found roll at atomic i was still somewhat new to the world of tattoos. I only had a few before and didnt have many that came with good experiences. After searching for an artist in the portland area, i was finally told to check out roll. The shop was cute, super clean and every artist had a client in the chair...which is a good start if you ask me. After flipping through Roll's portfolio i knew i made the right choice. I wanted something bright and feminine and got exactly what i asked for. I gave him my ideas, he mixed them with his and it was perfect!! It was the best healing time i have ever had and he didnt have a heavy hand...my favorite part!! The price was good, and he was super nice. I live out of town and he has always been willing to work his schedule around the dates i will be in town. I have gone back a few times and plan to go back many more.
amazing art. amazing artists.. i don't know anyone else that i would trust to permanently place their art work on me. roll hardy is an amazing fellow, talented artist and skilled tattooist. it started with a small piece 7 years ago. since then he has added gorgeous back, leg and arm pieces. i've spent many hours and $$ at atomic and never regretted it once. i have sent friends and family, all who've left pleased. besides all being crazy talented people, they are all extremely friendly and make you feel very welcome. doesn't matter if you are an ink newbie or tatted veteran, i would recommend this place hands down as the best shop in portland.
Tattoo Snob Meets Roll: Above and beyond all standards..
I'm insanely picky, especially when it comes to tattoos. I mean, it's there for life! Plus, I don't go for small little doo-dads here and there - I go all out. HUGE. I know what I want, and I need an artist willing to work with me.
I was really scared to find a new artist; in fact the one I went to Roll Hardy with was meant to be done by Marco of Ocean Mystique (VA). However, I found Roll the same way I found Marco. I wasn't looking for either of them. Instead I'd see pieces on other people I LOVED and asked them where they got their work done. Three accidental comments later I found myself calling Roll up for a consultation. I was SO picky - I wanted a sentimental piece on my right arm that is practically a half sleeve. There was no room for error. PRESSURE!
Roll was patient and timely. He kept in contact with me, asked questions when he needed to, and when he didn't get it right the first time, he re-sketeched what I am now wearing on my right arm. He has such a deep connection with his work, and after speaking with me I felt he had an intuitive side. He suggested peonies - peonies?! How did he know that was my favorite flower? That's so random.
He's friendly, kind, gentle, patient, and talented. I won't go to anyone else as long as I live in this area. When you're sitting in a chair for such a long time you get to know each other, but he's also comfortable with silence, and since I'm at ease it's lovely. He has a gift - he doesn't just do tattoos - he creates ART, and that is a gigantic difference. If you want a Tweety bird, go pick something off the wall elsewhere, but if you want something unique, original, and professionally executed call Atomic and ask for Roll Hardy. My best friend is lining up to see him, as is her four year old daughter...when she's of age, of course! She requested a monster truck and a flaming skull, and you know what? Roll is great with children, too. As a preschool teacher that tells me a lot about someone's character.
Best tattoo place in Portland, period..
Best tattoo place in Portland, period. And Roll Hardy is one of the best on tattoo artists earth, period.
I was fortunate enough to run across Roll Hardy 5 years when I was sorely in need of some cover-up work, which he did beautifully, after several other tattoo artists told me I was in a no win situation. Since then, I have gone to Roll consistently for new ink, as have a good dozen of my friends. Roll has the uncanny ability to articulate and go beyond a person's best expectation of a finished tattoo. He blends his ideas with yours in a way of suggestion and sincerity and the work is always amazing.
And spending time in Atomic is great by itself. The inimitable work of Roll Hardy, Jason Bradbury, JoAnne Slorach, and of course, London Bellman is what makes Atomic one of the best places in the Northwest, if not the entire country.
Keep Looking. I wish I would have gone to this Joanna because my experience with Atomic was awful. Rol charged me twice what he originally quoted ($250 ended up being $500) and did a terrible job - my tattoo is too dark, uneven, unplanned (he didn't do a single sketch), and I have scarring where he dug the needle in way too hard. I have had several tattoos and this is the only one that has ever itched, peeled, and flaked for weeks while heeling. I wanted to give him the chance to fix it, which after the amount of money I shelled out seemed fair to me, and he had initially agreed to do it. But when I called to schedule the appointment, the creep did not return my phone calls for weeks, and after I finally called up and complained about the fact that he wasn't getting back to me, he suddenly had the time to return my call and left me a message that was demeaning and rude, and refused to fix his work. I wouldn't have gone to him if I hadn't seen work of his that was good. Unfortunately for me he turned out to be inconsistent, unprofessional, and dishonest. I would recommend trying another artist at this studio if you plan on going here. I have seen pictures of their work and it looks good. Just be sure that whoever you go to treats you with respect and seems invested in doing good work. In my case, Rol did not.
