Summertime remains the best time to
visit, when drag races move off the main drag and on to the Portland Raceway. Watch supped up hearses battle against county sheriff cruisers for the best time. Next, wander over to the rear grounds to the classic car and bike show the size of four city blocks. Cut your jean shorts a lot shorter, grab a Bud Light and party with the best of them.
It's more than just a racetrack.. In Short Portland International Raceway's (PIR) premier event, the G.I. Joe's 200 Indy Car World Series, happens late every June, closing out Rose Festival events for the year. Big names from around the Indy Car circuit roll into town to compete at this stop on their tour. Events at PIR don't stop there, though. The raceway is host to numerous antique car and motorcycle rallies and races every year, as well as cycling races on Tuesday nights from May to September.
