I wouldn't call it Mexican food.... ..more like Mexican themed food, maybe? Maybe because I used to live close to the Mexican border. The food is certainly not like anything I ever ate in that country. I've gone back a couple times, and the staff is always friendly and the service is good, but the food doesn't do it for me at all. I wish they'd fix the food or get out of the way so someone else can sell tasty food in this great location.
So many Pinatas!!. This is a WONDERFUL Mexican restaurant! Whenever people from out of town come to visit I always take them to Acapulco Southwest Gold! The food is flavorful and served quickly. The service is friendly and efficient. The atmosphere makes it a wonderful dining experience. I love all the pinatas hanging from the ceiling and the dozons of hotsauces lining the counter. I definitely recommend this restaurant. It's a multnomah gem!
Consistent quality, friendly staff. The food has a "homemade" touch to it, the menu has ample variety for a small place, the servers are always a delight. Love the peasant plate and the taquitos. Terrific selection of hot sauces. Great shakes and malts.
Tasty Food. Great place to eat. Good food, good service, nice people. Great for lunch hours because you are served quickly and can get in and eat and get back to work.
Perfect (for what it is).
I give this place 4 stars keeping in mind what it is: a local, small, casual, Mexican-ish joint. That's to say, it's not the same 4 stars I'd give to the restaurant at the Heathman, for example.
But it's got a lot of things going right . . . the service here is great. Everyone's friendly, prompt & attentive. Food comes out fast. The food used to be pretty mediocre, but has recently improved. They're doing delicious things with chorizo these days. The prices are incredibly reasonable. It's not gourmet food, it's not fancy, but it's comfortable and comforting.
Average food, excellent service. I have been living nearby the restaurant for a few years now, tried it a few times, and swore I would never go back, but I had a hangover and was craving mexican food, so out of desperation and laziness I decided to try again. Not only was I pleasantly surprised at the more attentive service, but (and maybe because I was hungover) what I ordered was actually very good. Certainly not authentic, but good. I would reccomend the jalapeno hushpuppies and the stuffed poblano pepper. Drinks seemed overpriced, but good also.....
New cook.... Food has improved. About a year ago I went to AGSW with my wife for dinner and swore we would never go back. I remember thinking that I could get better mexican at Taco Bell. Recently a group of my friends were meeting at AGSW for dinner and I thought, "I'll just nibble on the chips and salsa cause there's no way that I'm going to pay good money for the same food that I had last time." Well ultimately I did end up ordering a meal and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the best mexican that I had ever had in my life, but it was pretty good, and very resonable for a generous portion. Our waiter was prompt with our drinks, he refilled the chips before we ever asked, and we never felt like we had to wait for anything. I asked him if the restaurant had changed hands recently and was told that it was still the same owner. However they had fired the former cook and a new guy had been working there for the last couple of months. He must be doing a better job of seasoning the food and giving you a reasonable portion for what is honestly a pretty cheap meal. It was a world of difference from the last time I had been. If you're looking for halfway decent americanized Mexican that's filling and doesn't take a huge chunk out of your wallet, this isn't a bad place to go.
Yay for tacos that taste like dead bad things!. I'm sorry, this place had potential, but then Mick started to own it. What is wrong with this guy? This place is awful. Filthy. Bathroom through the kitchen. Nasty carpet. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! Thanks for nothing.
Nice Restaurant. Went there recently after a late workday. I experienced very attentive service, in fact, the other waiter frequently made sure we were enjoying our meal/or required anything more. The food is good, but what was the deciding factor in why I will return is the fast service, both by the waiters and the time the food came to out table. How can you beat a basic meal for under $7.00, all the chips you can eat, and a $2.00 bottle of tecate. All in all an enjoyable experience with friendly waiters. I will see you again.
First and last time - been there twice.
Their chicken enchilada showed promise as did the pintos. But it was downhill from there. Terrible margarita, the corn chips were Doritos, the spinach enchilada was bland, and the tamale is better at Seven-Eleven. If you only have 1 tamale, make it pork not beef. Awful, awful, awful. The wait-staff didn't know who made their tamales. I guessed Swanson since all their dishes are microwaved prior to serving.
We tried, it was convenient, but now it's back to Mazatlan on Cornell from authentic Mexican.
