There was only one good thing about our first and last visit to Fryer Tuck/Cider Mill. For the price you get a lot of food. Too bad the food was bland, bland, bland. Seriously, the fried chicken at the closest Albertsons has more flavor. Also, the sign says restaurant but really it should just say Smoking Area. Even the non-smoking Fryer Tuck section smelled. The service was horrendous. There was one waitress on staff attempting to serve about 30 customers. It did not work. Our food order took over an hour to come out. We kept saying maybe it will be worth the wait but it was not.

Pros: Value

Cons: Everything else.

If you're searching for good fried chicken in Portland, Fryer Tuck has it. As far as I can tell that's pretty much all it has, and they do it well. Last night we ordered the dinner for four ($20) and it was more than enough food for four people. It was obvious that the chicken was cooked to order as it was hot, crispy, very moist and no greasier than fried chicken should be. It definitely h it the spot for my craving. The sides (macaroni salad and baked beans) were nothing special, but definitely tasty and picnic-worthy. We called ahead and our order was ready in the time they promised, and packaged up perfectly. The pick-up counter is attached to the Cider Mill restaurant, and the cigarette smoke fills the air in this space. We had to wait outside because it was so strong, but the food made it worth it, and since we got it for take-out it was fine. I would never eat there because of this, though, and am glad we ordered to go.

Pros: Excellent value, good old fashioned fried chicken.

Cons: Very, very smoky
