Hi Justin, did the last fellow who worked on your amp give you a bill that showed what he replaced parts wise and areas he worked on?.. I was looking at the output sections and I see in one channel where two of the main output transistors have been replaced along with some of the drive board transistors and some resistors, one channel does not even have matched brands or types of output transistors, I see some pretty sloppy workmanship. One of my test processes is to disconnect the pre-amp section from the output section (the jumpers on the back of the chassis) and then run the amp section separately with audio input and also run inputs to the pre-amp section and take the pre-outs to another amp that way I can see where the issues are. The output section seems to be playing fine at lower voltages, did the problem begin to happen after you had been running the amp for a length of time?
The best audio repair in Portland..
I have been using Audio Specialties for my hi fi repair needs for over 15 years. Amps, CD players, tape decks, high end, mid-fi, et al have flowed through their doors, and I'm always pleased with the price and quality of work. The only time a piece of equipment (30 year old amplifier) had an issue which could not be resolved, my original charge was refunded in full. I will not use another audio repair facility in Portland.
The sales side of Audio Specialties is great, as well. So much interesting vintage gear, and it all seems to turn fairly fast, so you never know what you'll find. And all backed by their service department.
The local hi fi community in Portland already knows about Audio Specialties in spades - you should too!
