Renter Beware! Constant raising of their rates!!
by give it up at Citysearch
I moved in on a six month lease at $675 per month. After my lease was up, they told me in order to renew my 6 month lease it would be a little over ~$900 per month ! The month to month price is $965 (including the water/sewer/garbage fee-this is what I pay now it was a little less but still more than $900). What is the point!?
I decided I would be moving out, but was waiting to see if I was going to be changing employers. In the mean time, I ended up staying on a month-to-month basis. Later, I called and inquired about a nine month lease (my employment situation is set and I was deciding on staying or moving). I was quoted $825/month. I waited TWO months trying to decide to move or stay. I decided to stay and called in again only to be told that they raised the price AGAIN to just shy of $900 per month for a nine month lease (this is only two months later)! They are clearly playing games (most likely because I paid for the month to month price for a bit). This is so outrageous that they would change the price that much AGAIN in just a two month period. I have never lived in a place that did business this way. Sure, I have lived in other places that are the typical giant aparment complex/city, but this is the first place to seriously raise rates on a consistent basis since I moved in.
While living on the month-to- month they raised my rent two times, as well as the water/sewer/garbage and parking/garage fees.
AND, I am very upset. My month to month rate just went up two months ago (again), then the water/sewer/garbage went up last month, now because I called in inquiring about a nine month lease my month to month is going up to $985 a month!!!! WHY? Because I called in and they said they have to do a rate check every month and the rates change every month! What!? So had I not called in, my rent for the month would not have gone up.
All of this has occured in the last year and a half that I have lived here (going from $675 a month on a 6 month lease to over three hundred dollars more for a 6 month lease now!). I say beware of them sucking you in with a lesser price, only to try to stick you with a super high rent increase EVERY month or every other month, along with increases on everything else.
This place is not worth that much money. Yes, my place has a fireplace (but it is not a gas fireplace so you would need to keep buying wood if you want to use it) and yes it has a stackable (and unfortunately tiny) washer and dryer. Otherwise, it is the tiniest one bedroom I have ever lived in.
I moved in because the rent price was good. There isn't any where you can walk to except for QFC, so it isn't like it is conveniently located to anything.
I used to live in some apartments in the Bethany area that were next to the shopping center. I am thinking of moving back there. They are much closer to many things and they have the washer/dryer and a GAS fireplace, as well as a peacefull atmosphere and walk-in closets with a roomier living area, all for less. Like I said, the rent was a lot less pricier when I moved in here.
Also, if you want to talk to anyone who is professional and understands what a good tenant/management relationship means, do not talk to Destiny. She is clearly only in her position for benefits other than client retention. It is in the manner in which she speaks to people and her-- I could care less demeanor that gives this away. Good luck if you move in here and are expecting your rent to stay the same.
Horrible Leasing Agent!

I wanted to check out this apartment today and had called early this morning to see if they had any special going on but the lady who answered the phone named Destiny was not only rude but was irritated that I was inquiring so I thanked her anyway and hang up. After an hour or so I got a voicemail from this same place from the same lady named Destiny asking me to call back because she had noticed that I was inquiring about the apartment. Uhmmm... is she really that dumb or what? Anyway, I thought why not see if it's worth seeing the place in person so I decided to drive over to check it out. I managed to get in the office and had a brief conversation with the same lady that answered my call earlier except it's even worst. She was not happy at all answering my questions about the price and was giving me attitude and seemed really irritated and frustrated. Well, I thought why the heck would I even pursue in actually having more interaction with this person who is not even showing any interest in what she does for a living. In short I left the office and found a much better leasing agent and better apartment elsewhere.
A lot needed at Breckenridge
by afidel16 at Citysearch
When I first moved in to Breckenridge a year ago, I was excited. I had great neighbors who had apparently been around a long time, they were courteous, and the complex *seemed* clean, friendly. However, management kept raising rates causing the good neighbors to move out and others to move in as groups, leaving less parking for residents (unlike other complexes, you don't get an assigned spot or carport without paying for it. It's first come, first serve with a parking pass) and pushing out the nice neighbors that had been there for at least a few years.
In fact, don't be surprised if they raise your rent by a minimum of 30% on a 12-month lease (and 50% if you want to go month-to-month). It doesn't matter if you've been a current resident with them or not. They don't negotiate or care about customer loyalty.
Regardless of their countless rules, people still don't pick up after their dogs or park where they are supposed to. So be careful where you walk and bring a flashlight if you walk to/from your car in the dark. It is also residents' responsibilities to report people illegally parked - but it should be their job, not ours. They also don't have property managers or security on site.
I've found the maintenance staff courteous and accommodating, but haven't needed much work done. Customer service from the office, is a different story. They are always right; they say they will do stuff when they don't; and they love being rude.
I also see they've updated their website trying to sell Breckenridge as luxury apartments. There is a washer and dryer in each unit (a blessing, I'll admit), but new paint, laminate flooring, and a plastic tub & toilet are not luxury. They are trying to compete with the more upscale apartments in the area that ARE luxury.
All in all, it's not a terrible place to live, especially if you don't have a car, don't mind paying inflated rates, and you don't buy in to the "luxury" statement.
Be prepared to pay extra for parking and carpet cleaning (when you move out), as well as if you will stay longer than your inital lease.
A Positive Change Needed at Breckenridge
by CommunityAdvisors at Citysearch
We are two women who have lived at Breckenridge for over a year as neighbors. While we love it here, we feel as if there are a few things you should know prior to moving in.
#1 : Just take a look at the fake plant in the women's bathroom in the gym. It hasn't been dusted EVER. This just kind of underscores all of the problems here, which stem from a lack of caring.
#2 : To the left of the bathroom is the hot tub, which has been out of commission for hmmm... 2 months?? Anything breaks or gets stolen around here... Give it 2 months or more to get replaced at least.
Maintenence requests are often replied to within reasonable time. However, when it comes to major changes it takes a bit of time.
#3 : Recycling in Portland is the law. Adequate recycling was not offered for a long time, many residents complained and a few changes were made. Currently, piled next to each dumpster is an overflow of recyclables which are doused with rain. Although recycling has improved, it continues to be insufficient; which again, shows a lack of caring. The cost of disposal is passed along to all the paying residents at Breckenridge - which they fail to mention in the walk through.
#4 : Communication and professionalism could be enhanced within the staff at Breckenridge.
The location and atmosphere are excellent. Please inquire with the staff upon your initial visit to see if the above has been addressed.
Sincerely,
Your Future Neighbors
- Pros: Beautiful scenery & location, fireplaces, the pool, nice gym, fun neighbors
- Cons: Feeling uncared about, long delays in fixing problems, really bad recycling stations
RUN FAR FAR FAR AWAY THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!!!

DONT EVEN CONSIDER BRECKENRIDGE APARTMENTS! EVEN AFTER THE NEW STAFF ROLLED IN THEY STILL ARE HORRIBLE!!
I just moved from Breckenridge Apartments and I haven't been happier!!!! Breckenridge Apartments s*** all the way around.
Just some of our complaints: someone coming in while I was taking a shower; Never fixing anything in our place, when we moved in we had hair from the last tenets; there were nails through our window seal; our cupboards where all banged up; No one picks up their dogs' feces and most of it is on the barley lit pathway to the apartments, the paint fumes caused medical problems for my children(Their solution was for us to keep all the windows and the screen door open while we were at work... it was JANUARY!), the bathtub that has a latex type paint that came off and the bathtub underneath was pretty much black and there is so much much much more!!!! Ask anyone who lives there is their place was clean/ready when they moved in....
I now live in Golf Creek which is right past Breckenridge on Leahy road and I love it! We put in a maintenance report and there was someone at my door that night!! The have a huge leasing office that has a pool table and last Sunday they had brunch; we got really good pancakes with whatever toppings we wanted for free! We had a two bedroom apartment and a garage and now we have a 2 bedroom townhouse that is twice the size and a garage twice the size for less!
- Pros: New windows and thats it
- Cons: Staff, Parking, Dog policy not follow. I can go on forever
