A pleasant surprise.
I stopped in last night with my wife for a quick dinner and had the lasagna with meatballs and garlic bread. I have only been to Geraldi's once before and tried their Chicago Beef sandwich and enjoyed it, so we figured we should try something else.
Our lasagna came out covered in marinara with a couple of housemade meatballs on the side of the plate. The pasta was perfectly cooked, not mush like so many other places. It was also fully loaded with cheese and was absolutely wonderful.
My only complaint about the lasagna was that it could have been a little hotter for my liking. It was perfect until the middle, which was a little warm, but not hot. That happens, it's not like it came out chilled or frozen in the middle.
The meatballs were nice and tender, not toughened by overworking like can so easily happen. Add in the fact that they are not overloaded with extraneous amounts of vegetables and I was very happy.
While there could have been a little more garlic to the garlic bread for my liking, it was still pleasant and not greasy.
All in all, the food was well worth the money, the place was clean, the service quick and friendly, and I felt good about the overall experience. Everyone that knows me, knows how much I hate places like Olive Garden, so it's not much of a stretch that I say go to someplace like Geraldi's before you ever go to OG. We will definitely be going back to try out their pizza sometime in the near future.
Love it!. Whenever we come in to Portland we make sure to stop at Geraldi's! We love the Spicy Italian and the Pesto Veggie with some pasta salad. Everyone there is always very friendly with great service when we have gone, and it's always a treat to go back!
Long time favorite!. I've been coming to Geraldi's since I was a kid, and have always loved their meatball/Parmesan subs and pizza! (everything else is tasty too, but those are the stars). I just chimed in here to offset some of the negative reviews from people who seem to have an axe to grind with people who work there. Going to pick up my order now, I came to citysearch to find the # originally!
best subs in Portland. Absolutely the best subs in the Portland area, 2 Geraldi's this one and one on Lombard off Allen in Beaverton, this one on Canyon is the best. Get the Spicy Geraldi and if you think there is a better sub in Portland let me know where it is and please don't suggest Togo's or Quizno's!
Best meatball subs!.
I have eaten at this place for the last 12-15 years, I probably make it in on average once or twice a month for lunch (used to be much more often when I lived & worked closer).
The owner and other people who work there have always been great - very friendly. I'll often order a whole sub and only eat half there and they'll hold the other half for me to go (keeping it warm in the oven if it's a meatball sub).
All the sandwiches are great, but the meatball sub is still my favorite... it's delicious. Have had the pizza and it was good, but not amazing. My 7 year old daughter loves it though.
Some rude earlier reviews claimed the seating is uncomfortable and the place is not air conditioned. I've been in there several times this summer and never noticed it being hot in there. Chairs are just fine, not sure what the negative reviews are all about.
Place is clean (including the bathroom, which is a good indicator of such things), they provide reading materials (newspapers, magazines) which is nice if you're solo.
Overall, 5 stars.
Was that really Pizza!. We ordered a Pepperoni, Olive & mushroom. There was one mushroom used for a large pizza. I asked if they had a shortage of mushrooms & olives. I was told oh..we can give you extra in a cup. Uh...no, it is supposed to be cooked on it. Cheese & taste was also on short supply. I would of done better to do a take n' bake.
Great Pizza. I love the sandwiches and the pizza here...no air conditioning but fine if you are doing take out.
Geraldi's... More than an Italian Eatery.
Where do I start? Geraldi's is undoubtedly one of the best family owned restaurants I have ever stepped foot in. I Have been eating there regularly for the last 5 years and have never had a bad experience. The staff is amazing and they go out of there way to make small talk with each customer who comes in.
The food is delicious. There is not one bad choice on the menu. The subs are phenomenal and the pizza is top of the line.
I have probably ate over a 100 meatballs from geraldi's and have never had a complaint. But I also have better things to do than trash a local family owned business.
Don't eat here unless you have a Death Wish.
Well, I will never be back to this food torture chamber. The subs were burnt and my buddy got raw meatballs in his Meatball hero. When we confronted the owners son and told him the meatballs were under cooked, he was rude and did nothing about it. We got nothing but attitude from this punk..what a jaggoff. My god you could get really sick from eating under cooked meat.
It's really cramped and uncomfortable as well, the chairs are something from a med evil torturer cell. It's like sitting on concrete.
The staff is completely burnt out and you can tell they just don't care. So if you have a death wish this is the place. Just make sure your affairs are in order because it may be your last meal.
What A Joke!!!!!. What a terrible place for eating. I would rather go to Mcdonalds and get a quarter pounder then eat one of those repundent subs. The only reason why they have good reviews is because the owners themselves write them!! For petes sake, the owners name is john!!! Its soooo obvious that he is trying to make himself look good! What a joke! I'm never going back there.
