Conveniently located on the yellow line, Widmer Gasthaus continues a strong German tradition with a Hefeweizen always on tap, a classic wooden décor, and plenty of hearty sausages and pretzels on the menu.

In spite of its somewhat far-out location, this local beer-brewing behemoth’s North Portland Gasthaus Pub is predictably packed with brew lovers enjoying Fondue pretzels, Amber Ale-braised kielbasa, and of course, the fruits of the tap. Gluten free diners, the GF menu considerately includes both food and beer.
Chicken Schnitzel. Nothing else compares..
My family has been coming to this place for yeeeeeeaaaaaars. We're German and, well, this place has the best schnitzel in the city hands down. I've never had HORRIBLE service here, but the wait staff seemed a little absent. I've had worse service elsewhere.
And Mint/820 is right across the street. If you're not too full from schnitzel, fondue and beer, step across the street for an amazing cocktail.
Food could use some improvement.
Its expected that the beer would be good - no complaint there.
Food on the other hand was just OK. Pork schitzel was just a pork chop rolled in breading - nothing special or worse yet hardly anything worth writing home about.
Dessert on the other had was good.
I love Widmer!. Widmer hef is my favorite beer, and I make a point of going to the brewery every time I am in Portland. The food is good and the beer is great - order a sampler! The service is about average I suppose. It was pretty busy this trip and the service was really slow, I don't remember it being amazing last time I was there and they weren't very busy at the time. Gift shop is closed on weekends, and they don't have much of a selection of merch in the restaurant which is a bit of a bummer. The beer cheese soup puts a smile on my face.
servers wanted. Don't come here if your looking for good service because your not going to find it. But you will find great beer and good food. I took out of town guest and I wish I hadn't.
Needs improvement. Perhaps it was a busy night, but our service was terrlble. The waiter actually was upset when two of us place a drink order while he delivered a friend's beverage at the other end of the table. He said "You should have said something when I was here before" under his breath. Guess what? He never asked. My salad was great, but my friend was served two burned piece of pork. The waiter didn't even flinch, but presented the plate like that is how it was supposed to be done. When it was returned to the kitchen, he made no offer of how to remedy the situation other than to take it off the bill. Manager please! I hear the beer was good, but if I am going to deal with lousy service, at least get me a strong cocktail.
Horrible Service. We've been to this restaurant at least 5 times, and the service is consisently mediocre. While the food and beer are good, the service sunk to an all time low and ruined our experience. Our waiter was rude and we were surprised by how surly he was with his condescending remarks made several times over dinner. Overall it was a disappointing experience.
Best Beer!. If you don't love the Hef, something is wrong with you. The beer here is wonderful, and there is nothing better than getting it straight from the tap at the brewery. So many choices. Get the sampler if you are not sure what to get. The food is iffy and lacking flavor. Soups are good and creative. Pretzels are always fun.
It's a little hidden treasure. Oh man, such good food, such good beer, such a great value. Try the fondue pretzle and anything with that spatzle stuff. The beer, well, everyone knows that's good!
I like it!. I ate here for the first time the other night and really enjoyed it- everyone's food was excellent (I would recommend the sausage fondue appetizer- super yum!), and my pasta was so big there was plenty to take home. I agree with other people's comments regarding the waitstaff; some of them were a bit on the surly side. But hey, just order another beer, on your own at the bar if needed, and it'll be fine. Still worth it.
Great Octoberfest.
Went for the first time for their Octoberfest and really enjoyed the music, beer and food. Hard to judge their food based on a densely populared beer fest but from what we tried (preztels and sausages) it was pretty good.
I had not had their beer in years and was very pleasantly surprised with their Drop Topamber and Octo beers. So impressed I think I had 5 of them each. Met the manager of the place who was a very cool guy, staff in general was very friendly.
Great place and will definitely make it a regular spot.
