Great Music, Awesome Belly Dancing, a fun place to relax and see/hear great local talent. Just went for our first time last Saturday and really enjoyed it. It was the first time for belly dancing there and we were really glad we got to see them perform. Each dancer was awesome, unique and fun to watch. We liked that they really got the crowd involved. Very cool! We really enjoyed the drummer and guitar player that started it all off, great music guys! Really a fun place to relax and see something different - we could tell the performers were having as much fun as we were.... oh and we liked the food and good prices too. Will definitely be going back and taking our friends with us.

Best Open Mic in town. If you are a musician, or simply a music lover, this is absolutely, hands-down THE best place to catch an open mic in the city of Portland. Not only is the audience consistently attentive, the musicians that play White Eagle on Sunday night open mic are incredibly talented. I myself play there, and while I consider myself talented, I am always impressed, even intimidated by the high caliber of music that other musicians play. Blues, folk, country, rock, you name it-- the Portland musicians that come here are top of the line.

Sunday night at 8 is when you want to come to the White Eagle. Trust me, you will have a blast, either playing guitar on stage or simply soaking up the good vibes.

And no, I do not work there. :) I am just stoked to have found a great, respectful place to play my songs, and to listen to others, too.

Noel. I've lived in Portland fo 4 months. I heard that McMinamin's bars are where it's at, and that is false. This bar is nothing special. As is the Chapel Pub and Kenned y School. Just another bar. There are better micro breweries out there (Amnesia and 5th Quadrant in the same neighborhood). No thanks.

simple, good stuff. A lot of your typical tavern stuff that is simple and fits the bill. Service was down to Earth and plesant. Food was your typical fair. When you want to get away from the trendy trendy, this is the place.

Vote now for a smoke-free White Eagle!. I loved the White Eagle for good service, decent food, and often great music when I used endure smoke and inhale it often myself. I may sound like a 30-something prig now, but I just can't go back until smoking is banned from indoors. Why not restrict it to just the patio? The McMenamin brothers should just ban smoking all together and pioneer where Oregon is heading anyway. I genuinely believe that they would attract more patrons, not less, and that their workers would be grateful for the extra time that they will be able to live. Also, I like the drinks.

Historic saloon is transformed into a cozy live-music venue.. In Short
Portland's oldest continuously operating bar is now part of the McMenamins' empire. As usual, the brewpub barons have retained vintage details while raising the level of funkiness--and cleanliness. The long, narrow space is dominated by an ornate, 19th-century back bar. Flame-like light fixtures and an elaborate tile floor add to the Victorian feel. Mostly young, laid-back people eat pub fare and enjoy local folk and country acts on the low stage.

A diamond in the rough. The White Eagle has always been a great place to hang out, eat, drink and listen to music. Now that the McMenamin's have moved in it has only gotten better. The place is small but the atmosphere is amazing; very laid back and unique and rumored to have a resident ghost. The McMenamin's didn't have to do much to "funk-ify" this place. They have remodeled the upstairs and turned it into a hotel and have added a patio for outdoor dining & drinking. The patio has the added benefit of providing wheelchair access, which was almost impossible before. The food is excellent; they make the best BLT on the planet.

rooms upstairs.... I'm not a huge McMenamins' fan, but I like The White Eagle. Billed as a "rock'n'roll saloon" it sports the historic look of the place while hosting decent bands that usually fall under the "americana" category. It stays true to the sense of a saloon with an actual hotel with rooms upstairs for $30-$50 a night. What more could a hard drinking womanizer/man-eater want? The staff is attractive, compotent, and agile with the CD player with tunes by Bowie, MJ, Wilco, The Faces, Yono Oko, Neutral Milk Hotel and Blackalicious (and those were just the artists I heard within two hours). Low marks for the food because it's like all the other McMenamins (not bad food, but once you eat at Chili's, you've eaten ate Chilli's. You know?).

Quintessential Portland bar. The White Eagle is a relaxing place to enjoy great music. It's an old brick building, supposedly a biker bar and brothel in earlier lives. Tapestries hang on the walls, there's a small stage in the back, the food is great (it's a McMenamins now). There's a nice little outdoor area off the back, perfect for sipping great microbrews on summer evenings while folk music wafts out from the band on stage.
