Skyline Restaurant lives up to the hype.. Me and my girlfriend went to Skyline restaurant for the first time because we read that skyline was the number 1 burger joint. When we arrived into the restaurant the first thing we noticed was all of the great reviews all over the wall and also the great long history this place possesses. The place was packed but we only had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. We were met by our waiter whose name was Paul B. and we told him this was our first visit to his establishment. He was very pleasant, he was also very helpful with the menu. We were touched by Paul making this one of the best experiences we have had, with restaurants. We both ordered burgers with the works and we really loved them, the texture was just fabulous. My girlfriend ordered onion rings also and they were as advertised, very very scrumptous. For desert we had the great option of ordering all types of delicious shakes and we decided to try the pecan pie shake (For Me) and my girlfriend tried the bananna cream pie shake. Both shakes were just so very delicious. Overall we were very very satisfied and we felt that our waiter Paul B. was the best waiter we had ever experienced. This place really stood up to the hype of being the number 1 burger place. Outstanding food and outstanding service, we will definitely go to this establishment again.
THE Greasy hamburger joint of Portland. Skyline is a rare breed in the Portland/Beaverton area. The focus on gourment in most local places leaves few places serving classic American burgers. Cheap but good burgers without the fluff makes Skyline a craving satisfier. My favorite meal here is the skyline cheeseburger with onionrings. The onion rings alone keep me coming back. Remember they only take cash, but there is an ATM inside.
Re: IT AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE.
After writing this review, the next day (Sunday) I called and talked to Michelle, the owner and told her of my experience. She was speechless, and to use her words, 'horrified', of my experience. She was VERY apologetic, and couldn't understand how I'd had such a 'horrible' experience, and offered me a very generous gift certificate. I told her I didn't call for that reason, but to inform her, as I'd been a business owner and always appreciated any negative feedback, as well as good. Though this was over the phone, I could tell in her voice, there aren't enough words in the English language to describe how badly she felt, and how heartfelt her apologies were. She was very sincere, and literally begged me to let her send me a gift certificate and to please give them another chance, stating that they STILL serve excellent burgers. I relinquished, and just as she promised, yesterday I received it in the mail. I will use it and write another review, based on that experience. I'm looking forward to it, as I DO remember how good it was previously.

delicious chocolate malts!.
the first time i went to the skyline they were closed. i was with a friend. we had (apparently the word ess eee ex isn't allowed) in his car in the parking lot. a few months later when another friend of mine suggested we go to a place called the skyline for burgers and milkshakes...how could i refuse? i had never been...this place is so vaguely familiar. could it be?

c'mon. ... in the backseat of a car after midnight in the parking lot of an old diner that makes the BEST chocolate malts in town?
yummy cheeseburgers! amazing milkshakes and when the waitress forgot to charge us we didn't split because it isn't polite to dine and dash.
okay sure: i wish they were open until 10 or 11pm. it's summertime in the city...
help. I want to like this place; the concept of car service is always appealing and retro. I go here about once a year to give it another chance; I keep getting disappointed. I ordered the "homemade" chili and asked for cheddar cheese( I was afraid they would top it with American cheese). Lo and behold, here comes my chili with torn pieces of American cheese with slight indentations of fingerprints, gag! Not only should processed cheese be illegal, but on chili! As I proceeded to pay my bill at the register, I was informed that they only take cash. However, you are quickly informed that they have an ATM(with the $1.75 fee). No good indicator on the door that they are cash only. Sorry Skyline, you have disappointed me one too many times.
awesome.. driving back down through the park into portland on a sunny sunday afternoon with a belly full of burger and high on milkshake is the best feeling in the world. this place is the mount.olympus of burgers.
Best Pumpkin Shake Ever.
Found Skyline totally by accident- was a busy saturday night, and only had to wait about 5 mins for a table.
I had a 1/2 pound bbq burger- was everything the menu promised. Pumpkin milkshake was the best I've ever had. I only wish i lived in Portland so i could come here more often!
Staff was also really friendly even with the business of the restaurant managed to keep their cool. Will definately come back next time I'm in town.
A deep-fry diner serving up Americana fare in kitschy style..
In Short
Skyline's nostalgic '50s-style decor of Formica counters and Naugahyde booths and bustling, no-nonsense service are true to its "burger and shake" drive-in heritage. Families and young couples come for its signature dish, the Skyline, a lean burger towering with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. The fries and onion rings are crisp, but the real draw is the malted milkshakes in hot fudge and mint chip. More fountain specials include the sexy butterscotch sundae.
Olympians visit Portland and Skyline Drive-In. We come to Portland four or more times yearly to visit friends in the West Hills and we always plan at least one meal at the Skyline Drive-In - simply the best Burgers, Fries and Shakes anywhere!
Best Burger. I have been going to Skyline for over 36 years! I love this restaurant. The new owners have added their own touch to the already retro design. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is fun. Get a #12! It is the best in the West- or the East for that matter! If you want a trendy - toppings galore burger that doesn't let you taste real flavor- move on...to another joint- Because- This is the real deal. The juicy hamburger melts in your mouth. They use meat that isn't a frozen hockey puck! The booths are fun and the wait is no more than a few mintues with they are busy. I live about 6 hours away and I go to Portland about five times a year, Skyline is the first place I stop. You have to go!
