Satisfying experience.
I found this thru Citysearch, and called to order- only to find out that they were closed on Sundays. But to my surprise, the owner/chef
said that he would make an exception and prepare our meal. That in itself is a beautiful gesture. Since I didn't have a menu, he talked me thru my choices, and made sure that what I ordered was in fact what I wanted. 25 minutes later, my husband walked in with a beautiful variety of sushi and sashimi. The fish were perfectly cut, and melt in your mouth tender and the wasabi and ginger were bountiful and fresh. It's hands down the best Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood, and definitely gives those downtown restaurants a fierce competition.
Our chef even called, right as we were sitting down to devour our wonderful meal, just to find out if everything was to our liking. I don't know about you- but I haven't experienced that very often here.
They have made a patronage of us- we will definitely be back!

great place for sushi. This is a small sushi place. the staff is great. the owner is the chef. He's a funny guy. If you go sit at the bar. sushi is fresh. I have never been disappointed here. I would say one of the best rolls is the "sven roll" its on the menu. try it View Less … View More
A Great Place to Be Insulted and be served bad sushi..
Sushi rice should never be served warm or hot with raw fish. When I went for sushi one night at this place, instead of admitting they
didn't have any cold rice left, they quickly tried to whip up some sushi rice. This meant that I received my sushi warm and falling apart. Keep in mind sushi rice should be around 41 degrees when placed with fish to prevent bacterial growth on fish (as noted in many health standards). I reluctantly ate the sushi, but went home to find out that I should have not consumed the sushi. So if you think that's bad here's the other kicker that made me research the above.....
Let's start with the sushi chefs insulting me right in front of my face by talking about me and my boyfriend in Korean. Oh yes.....this place is not a traditional Japanese, which should be evident by items such as bulgogi on the menu. I will never go back to this place again after one of the sushi chefs said he didn't speak English by saying it to me in a combo of Spanish and English. I've been to this place in the past and the guy actually did speak sufficient English. I don't appreciate it either when someone insults me in a language I can understand enough of to know when someone is making racial remarks. I kind of wish I did something, but I didn't want to make a scene. So here's my 10 cents!

Great sushi and atmosphere.. Ichiban has a traditional Japanese feeling, not like a lot of sushi places. Very good sushi, with skilled sushi chefs. They are flexible for special rolls, and have vegetarian options. View Less … View More
Great Sushi Place!. We just found this sushi restaurant, and decided that it will be our "go to" place in the future. The food was fresh, portions were generous, and the service was very prompt and friendly. The owners are fun! View Less … View More
