Cancelling Membership because of Club Neglect
by portlandbuyer
My husband and I are cancelling our membership (my husband grew up as a member) because despite their "upgrades", SAC has done a poor job of maintaining its facilities.
Some equipment or another is usually out of order (recently water fountain and tan beds) for periods of time that go beyond "normal".
Also, showering in the locker rooms has become unpleasant because of the run-down nature of facilities, and lack of upkeep. Not the dirtiest, but not the cleanest either.
Finally, we were disappointed with SAC's tennis membership, as we paid pretty good money as "tennis members", but rarely were able to use the courts. SAC has too many tennis members, competing for too few courts. What results is the feeling of winning a lottery, if you are able to book a court more than once every couple of weeks.
- Pros: Diversity in ammenities
- Cons: Excessively out of order equipment- and not the cleanest
Nice new additions to SAC, however appears they raided the maintenance budget to make it happen...

I've only been a SAC member for ~9 months & unfortunately have witnessed more 'bad' than 'good'. Aside from that disclaimer, I've held gym memberships for at least 15 years & therefore consider myself competent to post comments. :-) The new building additions are certainly an improvement from the old original facility, however core equipment maintenance appears to have taken a back seat & repairs are taking forever within the old buildings. Examples include: steam room, sauna & water fountain within indoor pool area have been "Out Of Order" for weeks (if not more than a month), at least 6-7 cardio machines have been "Out Of Order" for a couple months now. And lastly, despite notification to 'management', the benches within the small & cramped weight room continue to NOT be bolted to the floor for safety. I recognize the usefullness of having a couple 'mobile' benches in any weight room, however gyms such as 24 HR Fitness follow these safety recommendations on most of their benches thus allowing members to work out safely with heavier free weight...
Some Good Some Bad
by KWS1
Here's the good and the bad. The good is the 3 indoor pools with one that is really warm for us wussies who hate to be cold, the classes (spinning and pilates) are generally very good and the rock wall and the gym are quite nice. Here's the bad, usually either or both the sauna or steam room seem to be broken. The family changing rooms are abhorrent, they smell bad and are basically concrete boxes with no ventilation. At the very least, it would be nice if they could figure out a way to keep the doors propped open between uses so it can air out a bit. I've heard (I'm female so do not know for sure) that the men's locker room is gross. Also the fitness equiment is not kept very clean or updated with the cool new equipment. Overall, I'll keep my membership but, would be much happier if the owners would give a little more love and care to the non-racquet portion of the premisis.
