its ok not great. not a family joint at all food took a long time not cooked perfect service was slow and mediocre good potential but not hitting it might go back but not a top pick at all3
will not return to this establishment. I recently ate at this establishment in a party of nine for a retirement dinner celebration. the service was poor; we were overcharged by $96 on our bill and the management, even tho admitting we were overcharged and it would be resoved, it has not been and it has been almost a week now. I have never seen worse customer service ever and we won't be back!
Sat club night. I've been going to the refec for Sat night dancing frequently for the past 5 years. Last night we went and they got 2 new female djs. We waited an hour for some good music. They were playing RAVE 80s TECHNO BS. My friend went to get a drink and asked the bartender what was up with music. He said that they got 2 new djs and they are getting away from hip-hop to 'change the crowd'...REALLY?!?!?! I told my girl to chug her drink so we could leave. Too bad 'cuz I really like Jason, our usual bartender. Got to the front counter and asked for our money back. 3 other girls followed and asked the same. Staff asked the manager and he said that we could have our money back but that we couldn't come back tonight. UH YA WE'RE ASKING FOR OUR MONEY BACK SO WE COULD COME BACK L8R?!?! Needless to say, went to the 2nd choice, Copper Penny, and amazingly, it was packed. HUH IMAGINE THAT. Had a great time GREAT MUSIC! All the hits. Won't be going back to the refec until they bring the hip-hop back.
Sometimes familiar is good.. We have been going to the Refectory since the 1970s. The food is good, plentiful, cooked correctly and served promptly. They don't serve "upscale Northwest cuisine" or "Asian fusion." The restaurant is kinda kitchy and fun. It doesn't have tile floors and granite counter tops- in fact it hasn't changed in 30 years and sometimes that is a good thing. If you want a very good steak or prime rib this is a great restaurant! The shrimp is also very good. The prices are extremely reasonable and it's comforting to go to an old familiar place.
Chippendales 7/25/08. I love seeing the Chippendales when they come since it always makes me feel good. My favorite skits are Cowboy and Hero! The guys are so sweet and so easy on the eyes. Ladies you can't miss them when they come to the Refectory!
A steakhouse GEM!. "The Refectory" A "quiet" steakhouse GEM. We have eaten here twice. Both times our Prime Rib was a perfect "medium rare." Both times! (20 hour slow roasted with housemade au jus & horseradish.) Wow-I thought I was in Iowa. Our salad was "all green lettuce." Just as I requested. Our potato was too big again! The low prices were embarassing. Finally our server Parker was great! Check it out!
Gone way downhill over past 10 yrs. I had my wedding reception there 10 years ago and it was absolutely perfect. The service was great and the atmosphere of both the restaurant and banquet area was elegant. My husband and I recently went back and I so wish we hadn't. I was so disappointed. The crowd has changed to low-class gheto. I felt really uncomfortable there and I love to dance... but not at that place - just really trashy. The bartender was nice, but the front (bouncers, check-in) were rude. We are not trashy or scary looking - my husband is a soccer coach and had on some sports pants (he wears nothing but sporty stuff) and we were nearly kicked out AFTER we had already had a table and had been served. Unbelievable! Yet, punks with pants hanging off their butts, with chains are allowed to wander freely. One dude was so wasted, he was passing out in his chair, but the staff chose to pick on the two most normal people in the whole place. Whatever... I'll never go back. I'm glad my sister won't be having her reception there this summer.
Excellent service and food. I've just recently moved to Portland and someone recommended The Refectory. Me and my wife visited Refectory on Friday night for dinner and I must say, we'll definately will be back. The service was great and so was the food. All workers had a polite attitude and looked like they wanted to be there. I had the 20 hour prime rib and my wife had the pacific red snapper. It is one of the best prime ribs I've ever had. I was also suprised the we received 20% off our check, the server told us that it is one of the promotions that they are doing at the moment. Great food, great price and great service, highly recommended.
