In Short – Matisse fills Portland's style void and it's cute as heck to boot. Imagine a very large walk-in closet, filled mostly with clothes that say, "Go ahead, be a girl. I dare you." Flowery dresses? Yup. Fitted cardigan sweaters? Check. There are lots of sheer fabrics here. Matisse is a boutique in every sense of the word. The clothes are gorgeous, well-made and have price tags that reflect both of these things.

Matisse is still my favorite store. It has my wonderful sage oil, and jane tran head bands. Dresses to sweats! Yes they still wrap such beautiful gifts too. Some things don't change.

It should be noted that they have moved to the Pearl district so the address is out of date.

If you are looking for a gift for someone you really love, love so much you think about them all day and all night long then this is the place. I have to admit that I am at a bit of a loss when it comes to trying to put my love into a gift for my gal, but Matisse works out 110% every time. Aside from the very friendliest staff and a comfortable atmosphere I think what sums it up best is 'they care'. Thank you.

When you bring home a hot little number by Betsey Johnson or French Connection, you might want to hide it deep in the closet so nobody will ask to borrow it.
