Tips for Milo's City Cafe

Get soup! All the soups are fantastic. Also the potatoes and scrambles. In fact, I've never had anything that wasn't good and I eat here every week. The staff are delightful, too. Not only great service, but great people.

Disappointing.... There's nothing bad that can be said about the interior; mainly because the music is so damned loud that you can't tell your breakfast pals anything without yelling at them.

The potatoes served with the benedict were great. The benedict itself, however, was almost inedible because of the bright, mayonnaise-flavored goo that was poured all over it. For a place that is known as THE Benedict joint in Portland, you would think they could at least put some lemon juice in the hollandaise, or make it with butter instead of oil, because that is what it tasted like - whipped oil and eggs.

Oh yeah, and everyone inside, customers and employees, are MEGA-HIPSTERS. But, then again, it IS Portland.

I feel like I was robbed. I won't be giving them another chance.

Milo's City Cafe. My girlfriend and I went to Milo's yesterday (Saturday morning) and were surprised to see no line to get in. All of the best places in Portland always have a line on Sat. morning. That should have been our first clue.

We both ordered a different eggs benedict. They arrived quickly, but were only lukewarm. The hollandaise sauce was an unnatural florescent yellow and completely tasteless. The meat was dry, chewy and cold. We were both disappointed, and will not be going back. Try the Tin Shed, Gravy, or Bridges for the true PDX breakfast experience.

spotty. Went there for lunch on Sunday. I had the Smoked Salmon Hash. The home fries tasted like they were made from leftover baked potatoes and they were just luke warm. The salmon was dired out. My husband had a turkey sandwich and the bread was dry. It came with a side of home fries and they were colder and tasted even more stale than the ones on my plate.

The waitress who took our order was flippant and when we mentioned we didn't like the food, she just shrugged and walked away.

The wait staff and the cooks seem to be pretty full of themselves.

Great place to eat.. Saturday 3/6/2010 Milo’s Restaurant.

My girlfriend and I just had dinner at Milo’s on NE Broadway in Portland OR. I’ve never been inspired to write a review before, but for this evening I had to. The people and service were excellent. Awesome food and our drinks were some of the best we have ever had. We sat at the bar witch turned out to be a great idea. We talked with the staff a bit and enjoyed our meal. We decided on the Spinach Salad, the Hungarian Mushroom Soup and the Cod special. My girlfriend had the salad and we shared the soup and Cod. For drinks, she had a Margarita and I had a Bloody Mary. Our complements to the bar tender, cook, and wait staff. If you are in Portland and you want to get a bite to eat, definitely check out Milo’s Café.

My Favorite Place on the East side. Breakfast:

Hard to know where to start! First and foremost, the eggs benedict. Always ooey and gooey with the best tasting hollandaise in Portland. I think they put drugs in them cause I'll suddenly crave their eggs benedict and HAVE to have them. They're also very agreeable to putting on them what I like (their veggie version + avocado). I love their monte cristo also, and their omelettes are delicioso. They have great mimosas too - typical orange, peach and usually also a special. They give you coffee while you wait in line (if you ask for it) and they have nice benches outside which are great on a sunny day but also good if raining since there's a cover above. Lots of happy sunlight flooding in the window too, which means a lot to me (and darkening filters if too bright).

Dinner: Their fish specials are crazy good - also their scallops! Yummmm. Their fillet mignon is only $18 (cooked perfectly to order) and they make a killer caesar salad which is probably my second favorite food on the planet next to eggs benedict! ;) Their bloody mary's ARE THE BEST I've had - and I'm a huge bloody mary fan. You have to try them if you love bloody mary's. A nice amount of kick without being too horseradishy (I usually ask for a wedge of lemon). I've only had their apple pie for dessert just cause I take it where I can get it but it's very good - especially if you ask them to heat it and then get ala mode (very Meg Ryan of me, I know - hey at least I don't ask for the ice scream on the side)!

Finally, I ADORE the wait staff. Very long term (they don't appear to turn over often)...and I love that they're down to earth and funny but experienced/know what they're doing. The total package. During the day ask for Red - she's a hood and a half. Oh and Albert. He used to be the bus boy but now is a waiter and is great. At night, Karen (this is pathetic that I know their names) treats me like the PRINCESS I am. ;)

Great breakfast spot. I really like this place for breakfast. The menu is pretty big and everything I have had on it has been good. The place can get busy so I recommend going before 10am on the weekends if you go for brunch.

Dirty Dining. Don't sit by the windows and look at the gap between the floor and the window. You can find food there from 1940. Gross. I ordered the waffle and got a soggy toaster waffle with sour whipped cream. They did take it away, but I declined a replacement. For obvious reasons. And after looking at the floor . . . .

Would Skip This Place. Had the eggs benedict which were overcooked and the ham tasted like cheap lunch meat. My wife had the french toast which were made of two thin pieces of sourdough.

Service was good. Place was clean. Prices were reasonable. Just average to below average food.
