What Our Expert Scouts Say

Laurelthirst Public House

The rough exterior of The Hurst belies an inviting interior that houses no-nonsense drinks served by friendly bartenders. The Hurst is a good Plan B, when there is no Plan B.

A fun, casual, affordable, friendly venue to hear music on an almost nightly basis. If you go, you can't miss out on the roasted turkey sandwich! The grilled cheese was tasty too. Cozy venue. If you want a seat get there early otherwise standing room only but worth it!

Great music but very crowded. I keep ending up going back to this bar because of the music that plays there which is great. The place is way too small though for the crowds that come when a good band is playing. They have a nice selection of beers for reasonable prices as long as you can jostle your way to the bar to order them. You can't get to the bar or the restroom or anywhere else without triping over people once the place fills up because of the narrow space with tables in the middle of it. But as long as they keep getting good music with low cover prices I'll keep going back.

Music pub takes you back to the '70s with a homey but trippy vibe.. In Short
Somewhere between a historical hippy dive and a cozy live venue, this place oozes earthiness and kitschy humor. The walls are covered with freaky art and photos of old rockers. Earthy-types, young and old, gather in abundance, joining the neighborhood yuppies. A tiny stage hosts primarily acoustic roots rock or folky acts. Libations include a good selection of microbrews and some unusual organic wines.

Ride your bike.. This place kicks a**. - except - you smell like sh*t when you leave. Good bands, great beer, nice staff, and way t00 much stale smoke stank. Good for the bands, but not worth hanging out afterwards because of the stank. Ride your bike so you can air out on the way home after the show, and keep your car fresh.

Good live music joint.... Heard LaurelThirst was cool so we headed there after work with 10-15 people. It is a bit small, but we were there early enough to grab the big corner booth. The place filled up quickly and once the live music started we heard why. The music was great and it was right there in front of us.

The beer choices are great too, and not too spendy. This is a fun place!

Get there early on if you have a big group.

Spilled beer and 20 mins later. So you have to pay $3 to support some crazy guy with a beard down his belly and hair hanging down his back. Where else are you going to hear dylan, donovan and even garcia done in the best Popeye voice this side of Pocatello? I'm not sure I,ve ever been disappointed in the talent that plays at this smokey little joint. Service, well thats something that doesn't exist. Big deal, if the service was terrific, just imagine how much more packed this place would be. Spill beer on another customer so they won't come back!

SF service in a PDX hang-out. After 3 hrs (and > $100 in drinks) the 8 of us were told we could either cough up the $3 each or we could leave, since some local band was about to perform in the main room. We couldn't even hear them - nor did we want to hear them - since we ere in the back room celebrating a friend's birthday.

Such a shame they lost so much business over $24. I felt like I was in San Francisco rather than Portland. That's the last time I will spend any of my hard-earned money there.
