Best...shop...ever!. So, I'm writing this review for 2 reasons: 1) Atlas needs some positive reviews (there haven't been ANY reviews since 2009); and 2) Obviously, I had a simply fantastic experience at the shop (in March of this year) that I feel compelled to share with all.

Back story: Dan and co. came to a tattoo convention in Austin, TX some years back. I'd checked 'em out online before the convention, liked what I saw, and Dan ended up doing a fabulous job on an elbow piece for me.

Recently: On a visit to PDX for a library convention, I decided to schedule some work with Dan, and boy oh boy am I a happy camper as a result. First and foremost, he TOTALLY got my vision for the tattoo. He created an original design for my arm (now what I'd consider to be 3/4 sleeved-ish) based on some ideas I had. Then, he worked on it until it was complete...nearly 5 hours later. It's beautiful, unique and exactly what I wanted.

Now for the really cool part of this whole experience: The dudes are SO friendly. I won't divulge all their secret closing-time activities, but I had a great time with these guys. This particular tattoo experience marks my second with Dan, and even though we live REALLY far apart, I'll continue to go to him for work as much as possible.

Bonus: super friendly and hilarious (and total hot piece of ass) shop boy Josh is great...and he's the first face you'll see when you walk in the joint. Good shot, Atlas!

Moral of the story: go to Atlas for all your tattoo needs (but call ahead cuz they're crazy busy). You won't regret it.

Dan Gilsdorf is the man. I would have felt comfortable under the gun of any of the tattooists at Atlas, but I chose Dan Gilsdorf. He knocked it out quickly and skillfully. Absolutely beautiful work! I will be going back.

Will be coming back for my next tattoo. I came here back in october a little over 2 years ago to see Scott. He's a great artist. I came in with a sketch and idea of what i wanted and when he drew up his own version for me it was perfect. He seemed to really know what i was going for and picked up on my style perfectly. My tattoo still looks as good as it did the day it was done and i continue to get compliments on it. This place is a must if you want quality work. It may take some time to get in to talk to them, but it's definately worth the wait and It's worth the money. I will be back for my second tattoo soon.

Atlas Rocks!. I went to Dan at atlas and he was amazing. He`s talented and makes you feel comfortable. The place was big and extremely clean. I will always go to Dan.

Great artists!. Have had several pieces done by different artists, clean, creative, and good conversation! Many compliments on work from this shop, I often reccomend.

Extremely pleased, thank you Lew!!!. Since moving up here a couple years ago from the Bay Area,Ca.. I have been dying to get some more ink done. A friend recommended Atlas, after seeing the work they did for him, I knew I'd go to Atlas. I didn't have an appointment being it was a birthday gift from my husband, we walked in and I was helped by Josh. He spoke to Lew and gladly fit me into his busy schedule and knocked it out I swear in less than 20 mins. Though my tattoo wasn't a huge piece, Lew did a fantastic job. Everyone was extremely polite, honestly I don't think i've ever been to a place where everyone was just so polite. Lew has wonderful chair side manners, he made me feel so comfortable it was unreal. All I have to say is that I've got more work I'd like to have done, I plan on getting my work done by Lew and possibly get in to see Jennifer in the new year. Atlas is the place to go in my opinion. Thanks guy!!!

Clean shop. Awesome tattoos!. If you are looking to get a new tattoo and don't know where to go, THIS IS THE PLACE! My sister and I wanted to get tattoos together before she left for college and Atlas came highly recommended to us from another tattoo artist. Jerry Ware did a fabulous job of taking our ideas and turning them into beautiful tattoos. The shop was very clean and had a welcoming vibe. I will be going back!

* All of the artists are very talented and are booked out well in advance, it may take a while to get your new tattoo but it is totally worth the wait!

Awesome Work!. I had my tattoo done by Lewis Hess on 6/13/08 and could not be happier! He drew up a killer design and completed it within the time frame that was talked about at the consultation. The shop crew was fun to be around and made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. I left there with not only a new tattoo, but with a piece of art that will be with me forever. Thanks Lewis!

Worth The wait- Dan's the Man. I've never been one to rush anything I do. It took me over a year to decide what my 3rd tattoo was going to be. Once I had an idea, I needed an artist. I search hi and low. I read everything I could, and then I just talked to people. Everything I heard just kept leading me back to Dan at Atlas tattoo. The whole process was great. The only thing people can complain about was the waiting list, over 3 months. I did not have a problem with it because it gave me time to save up the money. Dan is a great artist and has great chair side manner. I love my tattoo and plan on going back for more. I?m sure there are other artist in Portland that are good at what they do and I don?t want to knock anybody?s talent or style. Dan and Atlas Tattoo worked for me. Take your time and do your homework and I?d be willing to be they would help you find what your looking for as well.

Messed up my tat!!!. I'm from out of town and heard about their name from a friend living here, so I made an appointment to get some tatts here while visiting Portland. The one artist I booked didn't show up, and I had to come back for the second time around, and guess what, they messed up the date and month of my son's birthday. I didn't notice it while checking it out in the mirror when I left since it reflected in the mirror, until I got home ...This was bad, I would not recommend this place!!!
