Don't waste your MONEY!.
I was a member for two months.
Lets start with parking, or the lack there of. Its a total crap shoot to find a parking spot. Chances are your gonna have to pay a meter for parking spot or drive around the block for 15 minutes and hope to get lucky; the parking lot is very small!
Speaking of small let me address the locker room. If you happen to find a place to park, now your gonna have to contend with a small cramped locker room, with small lockers and too many people. If there is more than a few people in the locker room at the same time your gonna be in each others way, very outdated, and it smells bad!
If you want to borrow a raquette to play raquette ball, good luck.
If you want to lift weights, well, your gonna be tripping over other people. Small work out area.
Cardio equipment, not too bad if you don't go during prime time. Again, too many people, not enough equipment.
Staff, not very friendly. They act put out when you ask for an extra towel. The towel are more like scratchy rags.
I would not recommend this club! It will fustrate you to no end.
You're crazy, give me a break!. Old man smell? Give me a break. You probably went there one time and it was during the day when they have their seniors there. I think its cool they fill up their club with the old peeps when it would usually be empty. Lemme guess, you work out at a 24 hour fitness or an LA Fitness usually right? You're that type obviously. And by the way Ryan, some of those "old men" could probably out lift you! But on a better note, the gym is laid back and comfortable. I recommend it. I've been a member there for about 2 years and have had nothing but good service and met cool people.
Old man smell.. Tired club with outdated equipment. Smells like a locker room at a retirement home. Staff is reasonably friendly & helpful but facility needs much work. Poor value for monthly dues.
Ouch! It sounds like this is not the type of club you were looking for. We have been serving the local community for over 30 years and continue to maintain and keep up our facility well equipped for our members. I wish we could meet everyone's needs, but that's a tall order to fill. Thanks for looking.
BEST TRAINERS IN TOWN. To see your body transforming before your eyes and realizing that you have this amazing trainer pushing you with encouragement and muscle numbinng routines astounds me. Regina Brooks cycling and power lift classes are the hardest, most challenging workouts I have ever experienced..., and I considered myself athletic. I use that term loosely now! :) Her one on one training routines works out several muscle groups at the same time however you don't realize it until the next day. Paisley also has her style of challenging her clients to really push through each rep, as she is adding more and more weight!!! The result is I look like a brick house baby and I owe it all to them!!!!!!!!
I lost it at Lloyd Athletic Club. I lost 60 lbs and I never thought I could. This club made that happen. If it weren't for this club and the people working there I couldn't have done it. The encouragement by the staff, the knowledge of the trainers, the convenience of the location and hours......I am so thankful for this place. If you need help, this is the place. If you want a place you can go workout and not have to feel uncomfortable or on display, check it out. I love it !
Great club, great location. I started working out at this club this summer and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well-run, no frills gym. There is plenty of equipment and the location is great. As good a gym as I have found since arriving in Portland last year.
Personal and sincere service. When I was searching for an Athletic Club in Portland, I initially looked at the some of the chain clubs in the area. However, I found the clubs to be overcrowded and the staff impersonal among their members. Like the response below, I work until 5pm every weekday. Contrary to that response, when I arrived at Lloyd Athletic Club after work, I was warmly greeted by the front desk staff and was on a tour of the club before I could finish reading the extensive class schedule. Just minutes into the tour, I realized this was the club for me. The club is clean, up to date, and most importantly very personable. Since I?ve joined, I have found that the club is even more motivational than I could have imagined. The staff, members, and fabulous FREE classes keep me coming back every day!
Questionable Customer Service.
I have several friends who have said nothing but great things about this place, so on their advice my girlfriend and I decided to chat with someone about signing up. However as another review pointed out, due the incredibly inconvenient sign up hours this has been a task. The club makes it a bit hard for you to give them your business.
On several different occasions I was told that "a guest pass" would be left for me so that I could go try it out and look around. Each time I arrived I found that nobody at the front desk knew what I was talking about. Instead of trying to help me the staff at the front desk acted as if I was trying to "pull one over one". So I would again have to agree with an earlier review and say that the staff are continually ill informed.
Which leads me to ask the question- do you actually want my business Lloyd Athletic Club?
We apologize for our mistake. We experienced confusion between where guest passes should be kept and where they were placed. With our in house systems fixed we hope future experiences will continue to be positive. In Good Health, LAC.
Something for everybody...and they know your name!. I have had nothing but a great experience at Lloyd AC! They know members by name and seem to "hear" what feedback members give them to make it "their" club. This a great feeling, as compared to the 24 Hour, Bally's and other large chaines where experiences leave one to feel like a number instead of a person. I especially love the fact that there is a variety of ages that belong. From racquetball to senior classes and activities, there is something for everybody! Great job!
It looks like our improvements are generating great responses. Earlier comments talked about our lack of cardio equipment and parking after 3pm. Since then we have expanded with new cardio equipment in a new cardio room. We also have unlimited garage parking for all members after 3pm Mon-Sat. This year we completed an expansion to our cycling studio adding more bikes and another room for group exercise classes. Thanks for the continued support!
Works for me!. I've been a member at Lloyd for just over two years now. I've been very happy with the facility and the new remodel has made the space even larger and more user-friendly. I was a bit surprised to read the previous reviewer's comments...I've always found the staff at Lloyd to be very helpful and accommodating. This has been a big difference over my previous athletic club experience with 24-Hour fitness where the staff seemed more interested in each other than their members. I usually work out at Lloyd 2-3 times a week, and they always seem to have plenty of parking in their garage if I can't find a spot in the lot when it gets busy. I also like that the equipment seems pretty new and in good repair, and there's enough of it to keep me busy even when the club is full. Also, they give you free towels so that I don't have to remember to bring my own which is nice. I know some other clubs actually charge you for them. Overall, I've been really happy with my membership experience here. Good value for the price and facilities.
