Tips for Thai Garden

Best tasting thai food. I would have to say that it is some of the most fresh and flavorful thai food I have had. Not greesy, and always to our specifications. Anytime there has been a discrepancy in what was ordered and what was recieved, the owner (with whom my family has known for about 6 years now as customers) always took it back and made it first priority to get it fixed. My family is vegan and she makes it a point to respect that because her family is also vegetarian.

My point, is that it is a family run restarant and a great place to eat. Yes, it is kid friendly. This is one of the only times that my children will sit and eat for 30 minutes with out making any noise, quarreling, or fighting, wrestling, etc. Great place I recommend it.

Horrible service, horrible food, need to speak the language to get anything resolved. Me and my friend came in here to eat some thai food which we eat on a regular basis from other thai restuarants. The server spoke almost no english and was taking our order by pointing to the menu. I ordered the chicken pad thi with no carrots and extra peanut sauce, and my friend ordered tofu pad tai(she's a vegan). They brought us chicken pad tai (looked awful) with carrots and no peanut sauce, and my friend got pork pad tai. When we told the waiter that my friend ordered tofu not pork, and there was issues with my order as well (e.g. the limes they gave us were brown on the edges, the water was murcky, i can go on and on). The waiter disappeared and came back with a woman who appeared to be the owner; she then began to convince us that it was tofu, not pork. My friend became very frustrated that we had to fight to get our order right. Only after we made the owner sample one of the so called "tofu" pieces did she realize her mistake and without saying a word rushed over to the cook and started frantically yelling in her language. We felt uncomfortible and just paid for our food and left hungry not wanting another confrontation.

Best Thai food on the far East side. Go to Thai Garden. Order the hot and sour soup. Spend the rest of your life thinking about when you are going to be able to eat that soup again.

The place is a little dingy and the service is 'slow' if you are expecting nasty food to be thrown together in 3 minutes like most chinese restaurants. I'd say the meal comes in 15 minutes. It's delicious.

The owner lady goes to Thailand all the time to study new recipes. Just order a special dish or potentially a basic stirfry, it's tasty. The soup will change your life though.

I eat here frequently and am a picky person.

Disgusting. As I read these other rave reviews for this restaurant, I have to wonder if we are talking about the same place. I will agree, however, that the service is extremely slow. There were 2 other people in the restaurant, but the service still was bad. My friend's pad kee mao was bland and overcooked. The yellow curry that I had was probably the worst I've ever tasted- and I've tried many. The chicken and vegetables in it tasted old. Poor quality of meat, also. The salad rolls were warm- almost hot. Heated up lettuce doesn't taste very good. The thai iced teas were so sweet, we had to water them down a few times. The whole place smelled of mop water and strong cleaner, not very appetizing. Do not go.

BEST Yellow Curry. Thai Garden, without a doubt, has the BEST yellow curry. All of their curries are way above average, but the yellow stands out amoung thai yellow curry dishes. If you love curry, DEFINATELY give them a try. They also have a larger selection of types of curries (jungle?!)

The crab fried rice is also a wonderful dish.

I have to agree on the service, though. It's lousy. I EXPECT the take-out to be 10-15 mins late. Expect. Otherwise I'm sitting there in the parking lot like a fool. Forever. Just keep in mind to figure in the wait on take-out & this is an excellent restaurant.

Good Thai, but can be inconsistent.... We have eaten at Thai Garden numerous times. When they first opened I thought it was some of the best Thai in Portland, but it has been inconsistent lately.

The Tom Ka soup is usually quite good, as is the massamun curry. The lemongrass chicken can be excellent. However, I have been disappointed in the food lately. They just can't seem to keep it the same quality from day to day. The other night I had the most bland pad thai that I have ever tasted.

Service varies too. Last night I ordered take out and it took 45 minutes for a small order. There was 1 person eating there at the time.

Overall, a good experience and good overall Thai, as long as you hit it on a good day.
