Tips for C D Game Exchange

December 17, 2012

I have been going to this store since I moved to this neighborhood about four years ago, and I go there at least once a month just to see what they've got. They have a good selection of used blu-rays and games for recent systems, a smaller selection of games and systems dating back to NES, usually some good handheld systems and games, and tons of cheap DVDs. They don't have any vinyl and not so many t-shirts or posters, which the other CD-Game Exchanges do have. The trade-in value is ok, definitely a little better than other places around here, and I like the 'rental' policy of returns on used stuff. Also I noticed that the shopping center's sign on Division still lists them as 'The Record Exchange', which is at once nostalgic and ironic since I used to go to their store in Eugene back in 1996 when they had their old name... and now they don't sell records.

Questionable excange terms; piss-poor attitude!. I think the rental program seems like a pretty good deal, but don't go there expecting to get a fair offer on games. They advertise a 65% margin for trades, based on retail price of the same game on the shelf. I took in Superman Returns (listed at $10), PerfectDark Zero ($20), Cabela's Trophy Bucks ($15-$20), Call of Duty 2 ($10). The blond guy with the beard offered $15 trade, $10 cash. I'm thinking 65% of $55 is more like $35, but my attempt at negotiation resulted in a huffy retraction of the offer. So they expose the margin and then low-ball. He said he would only sell my games for $5 each because I purchased them at a rental store. I think games are games, and the cover is of very little concern. But even at $5 each, I should have been offered $20 credit. I fully intended to buy two games. I would have taken $20, but instead I'll be taking my business elsewhere!

my favorite store in portland !!!!. Greatest record shop in portland to NOT get vibed by the employee's. I looked for a Treepeople album for 6 years..no luck And then, I stumble into this fine shop, and I had it in my hot little hands within two weeks. plus they are really community oriented, and I feel like I am welcome there. Like I can go in on a saturday and just look around... and they are happy to see me anyway. great shop..P.S. (they dont really have records!!)
