My favorite 'sit down' Mexican restaurant.. Great food, fair prices, friendly service every time.

I love the fajitas. Not because they are different or some special recipe, but because they are always great fajitas.

Made Me Sick. I ate at this restaurant for the first time a couple of hours ago, and an hour after I became very sick, from the food. Not sure what, but I suspect the chicken in a chicken enchilada, some of it tasted gamey. I called the restaurant, and they said if a doctor says it was from the food they will pay me. That isn't going to happen since I threw up the food, and it is Saturday night. I almost never become ill, and I feel sure it was the bad food tonight. Beware.

Best Mexican. I moved to Portland from Arizona a few months ago and have had a hard time finding good authentic Mexican food, and this place rocks! The salsa is great, the food is delicious, and the servers are very friendly. I've been there several times now and I suggest it to anyone looking for real tasty Mexican food!

Amazing.. I am a regular customer at this restaurant. I have never once had a bad experience at it. It's amazing, and they don't let their hispanic heritage escape. Like another review said, it isn't a chain restaurant like Baja Fresh or Taco Del Mar. It's a family owned restaurant and everyone is so amazingly polite, not to mention the food is AMAZING.

The real tex-mex deal.. If you are wondering where the Tex Mex is in Portland, it is HERE at El Tapatio. I was starting to get frustrated that everyone thought Mexican food could only be a taqueria or burritos or some chain place like Baja Fresh. nono. El Tapatio is a nice, sit down Mexican restaurant specializing in food Jalisco-style. Enchiladas are properly sauced. They have albondigas (meatball) soup! And Caldo de Pollo! Also, the salsa is great and you get free chips. Margaritas are good too.

Good 'ritas and TexMex. Got a half-off coupon in the Val Pak and decided to go for it at 10:30 on a Saturday night, even though they close at 11. I expected the usual disgruntled service people, but was pleasantly surprised when the hostess and waiter were completely fine with our late arrival. Didn't even make a comment about it like many other restaurants might.

We were brought excellent chips and salsa, and ordered margaritas; mine rocks, his frozen. The glasses were that unwieldy saucer shape, but I didn't care, my 'rita was good and strong. The frozen one was less strong, but all right. I had enchiladas, he had steak asada. Both were solid. Total was $30 using the coupon. Service was excellent. I will be back.

Great food, great service. El Tapatio has excellent food, good drinks, and great service. I'll definitely go back.
