"Everything's fine" turns out to be negligence. Last summer when I changed my employment status and was about to lose my dental insurance, I made my final appointments at Willamette Dental, my employer's group dental plan. Other than replacing an old bridge (and so far, they did that successfully) I was told that everything else looked fine, other than a couple minor cosmetic fillings in front where the gum was recessed. We didn't have time to do those before my insurance ran out.

When it was time for an annual exam, I found an adequate discount dental plan and a wonderful dentist, Dr. Jon Lee in Beaverton, who accepted the plan. In his first exam he identified several deep molar fractures that resulted in leaking, leading to very large cavities deeper than the gum line under the old fillings. There is no way these issues could have developed in the one year since my exam at Willamette Dental. Had they been left undiscovered, at least 3 molars were headed for breakage and much more major issues. Were they unnoticed or simply ignored by Willamette dentists? Neither answer speaks well of their competence.

I am now paying for three crowns, after major cavity excavation, but am so grateful the work is being done even at a much larger cost to me than when I was insured. With Willamette, the price I would pay would be much higher down the line. I have found my new dentist and am experiencing how much "confidence in competence" is worth. I would not recommend Willamette Dental to anyone who wants better dental care than routine cleanings. I had always spoken highly of them, and am disappointed to learn of their negligence.

Save your time and money. Had two teeth repaired. One didn't cause any pain but decided to have cavity fixed since I had the insurance. It was filled last spring and I've had pain since then. The other tooth I had repaired still caused me pain as well but it turned out the decay wasn't fully removed. They filled the tooth with decay still there. They couldn't tell me why my teeth were hurting after the fillings so I went to another dentist not covered by my insurance who was able to see the problem and fixed it.

My major issue though is that I was scheduled for a cleaning. 10 mins before my appointment, I was called by my babysitter that my 2 yr old was breaking out in hives and having shortness of breath. I had to rush to the ER to meet her so that I could authorize him to be seen but called my oldest son (age 22) to call Willamette Dental in Lincoln City and tell them what was happening and that I would be about 10 mins late. They told him the appt had to be cancelled so he did and then called me. I started getting a bill. When I called the office about the bill, she was very rude stating I had to pay it and that each month they would charge $10. I can see if I failed to show up, etc but this was an emergency and they were told that and they were the ones that refused to kept the appt. which I learned wouldn't matter because they would have refused to see me late anyways. This is a poor way to treat customers. It shows they only care about money. She ask what I was going to do and I stated I was going to have to cancel my insurance then she tells me I still have to pay the money owed and that she's willing to take a credit card.

In seeing the other complaints, if you care about being treated properly--both medically and financially--go to another dentist and choice another insurance policy. It's not worth the grief they will give you.
