Inlaid brick paths line formally designed rose beds, bordered with neatly trimmed box hedges. Overlooking the gardens is a gazebo-like brick bandstand built in 1913; near it, huge old rhododendrons grow in a variety of colors. Graceful, old-fashioned lampposts dot the entire area. This sixteen-acre park features a formal rose garden (the city's first), softball and soccer fields, a basketball court, tennis court, picnic shelter, play area and swimming pool.

Jewel in North Portland

Working near by, on Swan Island, it's wonderful to have such a beautiful park nearby to stroll and escape for a picnic lunch on occasion. The great fountains, beautiful roses, mature trees, all add to giving you that tucked away feeling so close to the city. Taking a lunch, sitting on the near a fountain or a shaded park bench, is such a nice change of pace from the daily grind. A real jewel! Plenty of street parking. On hot days, drive around the park to find a shady spot!

Surprising!

In the heart of the inner city is a gorgeous park with lovely ponds and fountains that any neighborhood would be proud of. Lots of hundred year old trees and well maintained ball fields, an active community center with indoor pool... Peninsula Park with its Lovely sunken gardens is what a community park should be; the center and heartbeat of the neighborheed and a safe place for children.
