This is the country's largest forested municipal park within city limits. Nearly 5,000 acres provide city dwellers access to forests that house more than 50 species of mammals and 100 varieties of birds. All this and trails that intertwine for more than 50 miles. The park provides ample freedom for hikers, runners and those who simply want to enjoy nature.

Portland is lucky to have Forest Park. You'll find miles of trails for hiking and jogging and several serene gardens here. The best part is that it feels you've completely escaped the city, even though it's only a few miles from the center of downtown.

Amazing park in the city

We are so lucky to have Forest Park so close to the city. The trail head on Thurman can get really congested with cars, peoples and dogs, but once you get going, it's pretty peaceful. The farther you go, the fewer people you run into. You can walk (or ride) for miles and miles. It's a good thing there are mile markers, because it's easy to lose track of time and distance.
