Best Chinese Restaurant in the Portland Metro Area

by PattiandMonty at Citysearch

Our family believes that this is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the area. The service and atmosphere are great and the prices are reasonable, but the food is what brings us there. It is fresh, tastes delicious, and is cooked perfectly, whether it's a complex dish of spicy scallops or sesame beef, or simple dishes such as chicken lo mein, their perfect egg flower soup, or potstickers. The atmosphere is quiet, and a bit romantic, but our little boys love it! You can watch the Max train make a close, dramatic turn through the giant restaurant windows. Don't bother to go if you want chicken slathered in sweet sauces or fortune cookies - this is for people simply wanting delicious Chinese food.

  • Pros: FOOD! Atmosphere, prices, comfort, music, service, even take out!
  • Cons: None

Excellent choice for lunch

by littlerey at Citysearch

Wonderful food! Had lunch there for the first time. Friends had recommended it a couple of weeks ago. Restful atmosphere, attentive wait-staff, and really, really good food. We shared Chicken with Snow Peas and Prawns in a sauce. We practically licked the plates clean. My friend and I were still talking about how good it was today. I'll go back for sure.

best chinese food in town

by orangeyouglad at Citysearch

Sungari Restaurant has without a doubt the best chinese food in town. The quality is impeccable - I've never been disappointed. I'm not generally a fan of chinese, as it's usually way too greasy and salty and the restauraunts are always dark and ugly - not true of Sungari! The Jasmine Pearl tea is an experience in itself.

(A side note: if you think Sungari Pearl will be just as good, you're wrong - it's just a cheap knockoff with higher prices)

  • Pros: quality, ambience, service

Excellent hot & sour soup. Excellent beef with snow peas. We have it delivered every Saturday by Delivered Dish. We've also been to the restaurant several times.

Outstanding

by deren at Citysearch

Best Chinese food in Portland. Highly recommend the seseme beef and scallops in tangy sauce, and all other dishes are outstanding. If you want some very good tea, try the monkey-picked Ti Kwan Yin.

Wonderful DUCK

by enstillfear at Citysearch

Walked in on the 14th of Febuary, late after having reservations and they were very kind and seated us immediatly. It wasn't hard to find either, (we were just dumb). But we ordered our food in a easy way, and got our regular tea, the DUCK was soo good, and so was the shrimp! I liked the little flowers on the tables in the water, that added a special touch, the lighting was just right and the place wasn't noisy. A nice atmosphere that makes you feel comfertable.

  • Pros: price, food, atmosphere
  • Cons: parking

Lunch

by gonzocity at Citysearch

I have eaten here many times and the food is always hot, plentiful and served very quickly. Since I have only dined here during lunch time, I cannot say if the price is right for dinner. But it IS right for lunch. I recommend the Hot and Sour soup. It alone is worth the trip to Sungari. The staff is always prompt, polite and very professional. The atmosphere is clean, trendy and smoke-free. At $8-10 a plate, this is a great place to splurge for lunch.

Amazing!

by wayneinc at Citysearch

My fiance and I moved to Portland from the San Francisco Bay Area, and spent the better part of the year trying to find a decent Chinese restaurant to replace our old favorite. After many disappointing meals, we finally discovered Sungari. We love the pot stickers and wontons in Szechuan chili sauce, and the Spicy Sesame Beef is to die for. We also value the consistency in service and preparation we get at Sungari. We may end up paying a bit more, but it's well worth it.
