Good Food, A service Challenge.
by anoneemoss
They still get credit for having great pies and salads. They lose points for the new service standard.
Ordering from the counter and then seating yourself, while being told to get your own water and silverware from the station behind you is not what I expect from Pizzacato.
Also, poor execution of the service from kitchen to table. Our party of 10+ was asked to form up and order one at a time, then take a seat. Some of us were done eating before others were served. These were not complicated orders.
It felt like a new program being rolled out to save some labor money. It will cost them in the long run.
I like Pizzacato and the staff, they were working hard. It's the system they were forced to run that needs help.
- Pros: good food
- Cons: poor new service standards
Horrid service!
by bethnca
Five of us went to Pizzicato on NW 23rd about a week ago. We had the worst service I've ever experienced anywhere! It was so bad that I ended up leaving $0 (zero) tip, and I've never ever done that before... I'm usually a 20% tipper.
Several other groups came, ate and left, before we even got our food. All we ordered were some salads, panninis and slices of pizza (already made and sitting there). We were there almost an hour, the first 35 or 40 minutes of which we were just WAITING. It was excruciating!
We won't be back.
This Portland-based mini-chain serves up sophisticated slices.

In Short
Behind the street-side picture windows, the sleek decor of modern furniture and highly polished floors feels nothing like a typical pizza joint. In keeping with the visuals, the pies are upscale versions of their traditional cousins. Gourmet toppings like spicy shrimp and barbecued chicken are layered atop thin crusts brushed with olive oil and garlic. Rounding out the menu are fresh salads and paninis, complemented by local wines and microbrews.
Great salads. Not enough seating. Inattentive staff.

Pizzacato was my place of choice on NW 23rd. Excellent salads, attentive staff. The service was pretty good and the people friendly. Ever since the remodel though, the place is somehow different. The staff always seem to be in such a hurry and personalized service is a thing of the past. Along with the remodel, they've had a personnel change and the "energy" is very different. I think I need to give it a rest for awhile and see if the place is allowed to move into it's newness before I return.
- Pros: Great salads
- Cons: Inattentive staff
great taste

I don't eat meat and there is always a veriety of choices. The food tastes great. They also have a stamp card to get free slices or pizzas. You can also get a cold beer or glass of wine if you'd like.
- Pros: by the slice
- Cons: none

coming from the east coast, I guess I'm just partial to new york style pizza. Don't get me wrong- I like a lot of different types of unique toppings...but this sauce was very sweet tasting and not what pizza sacue should taste like to me..... if you like your sacue especially sweet, this may be the place for you!
Arugula and pears with candied walnuts

I love the pizza, but the main reason I go is for the arugala/pear salad. I eat one there and take one for later. Asking for the dressing on the side.
Yummy!

I love Pizzacato. They have great pizza (and salad) that's as different or as average as you want. I like their cheese pizza with a little feta on top. I love going to lunch there with a friend or two. They have fresh food, clean resturants, and good service. What more could you ask?
- Pros: great fresh food, clean resturants, good atmosphere
Absolutely the Best Anywhere
by jillorevik
I have eaten here for many years. One time David was asked how many times a week he saw me there his answer was, "I serve 14 meals. I see Jill here at least 7 times a week." The people are very friendly with great memory of what frequent diners order, they often begin preparation of my 'usual' when they see me park the car. The aroma as you walk in the door is scrumptious. Everyone I bring to Pizzicato immediately says, "Yum, this is going to be great just from the aroma. Thanks for bringing me here. I will be returning often." Food is excellent, ambience is warm and welcoming. Have a lovely salad and a huge foccacia bread for under $ 6.00.
Absolutely the best Caesar Salad in the WORLD. Nothing compares to their made fresh daily dressing and hand tossed pizza is out of this world.
- Pros: Great tasting food, Friendly staff, Welcoming ambience
