The most relaxing haircut of my life!
by Portland Mamma
I heard a lot about the Dosha Northwest location, so I thought I'd check it out.. It was time for a haircut, so I made an appointment with a Junior Stylist. Then brought me upstairs and I waited for just 2 minutes max and was greeted by a very upbeat, polite and talented stylist... Her name was Laura. she told me she was new to the location and had just graduated from the Aveda Institute down the road. I was so amazed because my hair hasnt looked this good since I was in my prime (16ish)! We had a blast, and she gave me an excellent shoulder massage and hand massage, too! Thanks Dosha for a great experience, I'll definately be back to see Laura again!
- Pros: Wonderful Stylist
2nd chance a bust
by jungfrun72
After receiving a facial about a year ago, and not being too pleased with the atmosphere (cackling women in the waiting area at 10am on a Friday morning - really?), I thought I'd give Dosha another chance, so I scheduled a pedicure with a basic manicure. The greeting I got from Lisa was "are you Karen?". I said yes, so she told me to follow her. I was seated in one of the chairs, and that was the last I heard from Lisa. Now, I don't expect to make best friends, but all the time she seemed hurried and bothered to be there, and after the manicure, I was left with mails that were buffed so thin they were bending backwards and the nailbed was partially detatched from the nail. This was about 6 weeks ago, so my nails are finally starting to get back to normal. The crazy thing is, I'm in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy, so my nails have up until then been very strong. I won't be going back. With so many nail salons in NW, why would I?
- Pros: Great Aveda products selection
Ice Cold Showers at NW 23rd Location

I've been going to Dosha for years now and have been increasingly underwhelmed. After today I'm just not going back. I took my mother-in-law there for $300.00 worth of services for her birthday and when we went to shower there was NO HOT WATER. I asked the attendant for assistance. She fiddled with the shower for a bit and then said- "Sorry." Shrugged her shoulders and took off. I mentioned the issue at the front desk and got a similar reaction. This is basic. COME ON. I acknowledge that my facial was great. Hopefully she'll move to a different salon.
Pretty good except pedicure

I went to Dosha NW after I received a gift certificate for spa services. Overall, it was a lovely experience. All the technicians were very friendly and helpful. However, the pedicure experience wasn't that great. Despite the woman who was doing the pedicure (who was very nice), the seat was very uncomfortable and I think my legs are too long for the bench and tub set-up they have. As I got leg cramps while getting the pedicure. Also, it seemed to take an extremely long time, over 1hr 45min to get the pedicure. Which resulted in a lot of uncomfortable sitting in cold water. After I got home, I noticed the polish had a lot of blemishes in it, resulting in it chipping after just a couple of days. I get pedi's pretty regularly and the polish should last a couple of weeks.
I also have to say that while they building is very nice, I have been to nicer spas for better prices. In that regard, I think they overcharge.
However, the facial was phenomenal and my favorite part of the experience.
- Pros: great facial, ambiance,
- Cons: parking, pedicures
Great first experience!!!

I went to Dosha Northwest after reading an ad on craigslist for a free haircut. From the moment I set foot inside, I knew it would be a good experience. Lindsay was FANTASTIC! She listened to everything I said and gave great input as well. We were able to make good chit-chat also, she wasn't pushy or trying too hard. I normally don't go to nice salons for haircuts, but because of my experience with Lindsay, I will surely return here in the future!
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?

So I signed their consent paper @ Bridgeport. I was to get highlights & the girl fried my hair! I have dark hair & I wanted an all over light brown color. She was to bleached & tone it to achieve the color. Well, she left the bleach on too long & then she didn't tone long enough, so my hair was gray & green when she dried it! I told her my concern & she & her coworkers tried to convince me it was a 'natural/neutral' color. I thought maybe it was the lighting, so I paid & rescheduled another day where she could tone it more b/c she was 'too busy' to do it right there. Later that day my BF told me my hair was horrible & that it was in fact a gray color! My hair was healthy before going & now I had split ends everywhere!! I went the following day for them to fix it & they acted like it was my requested color. They fixed it, but didn’t return my money. Then I told them to cut off what Britney had fried & they charged me half price for the cut!! All I wanted was an even cut which my BF could’ve done at home! I was so mad!! Even the lady who retoned me said it was grey! I will NEVER go there again. THEY SHOULDN’T CHARGE YOU TO FIX THEIR MISTAKES! They gave me a VIP card...yeah like that will fix my hair.
- Pros: absolutely NOTHING
- Cons: lack of experience, bad customer service
Incredibly comforting and friendly staff
by Penlily
I have never had a massage, a facial, or ever even been to a spa before, however, I had read a good deal of these reviews before I went to my appointment yesterday and was anxious.
I was greeted by a very sweet and reassuring brunette who checked me in and brought me upstairs to a little waiting area where I waited a very short amount of time before I was greeted by my least favorite employee of the day, a very cute curly haired guy in mod glass and green tennis shoes. He was certainly not mean by any stretch of the imagination, but he wasn't interested in friendly conversation. He took me to the shower room which had a very nice stone shower, albeit older structure that could stand a little bit of repair where he left me a robe and smock. Being a very big girl (280 pounds) I knew the robe and smock would not fit (and I was right) so I brought my own cover up which no one seemed to have a problem with.
I went to another waiting room where I was promptly greeted by Kyle, my masseur, who was incredibly respectful of my worries and asked a lot of questions about me to get an idea of where I may have pain. The massage was really lovely and he was very keen on what body seemed to need.
I then saw Jaida for my facial, who had to be the sweetest girl I've ever met. Not only was she incredibly intelligent and seemed to understand the science of her job very well, she was fun to talk to, honest and open and we had a really great conversation. My face looks AWESOME today, too.
Lastly I saw Ly for my pedicure, a very cute lady who's English wasn't the best, but she was engaging and friendly. And she did the best job painting my toe nails that I ever seen, hands down.
All in all, there were some flaws, but it wasn't in the staff. I honestly think that nice begets nice. If you go in with a rude sense of entitlement to perfect luxury and a snotty look on your face, people are gonna pick up on that. If you go in with a smile, people pick up on that too.
screaming baby in the spa?!?!???????
by pdxscats
i have to preface this review with the fact that i have otherwise given good recommendations regarding this location and the services i have received. ...until today. i was appalled at the fact that a baby was allowed onto the spa floor. it was explained to me that it was a member of a wedding party having their nails done, and that the mother had promised to take the baby into the bathroom or downstairs. -none the less the baby's crying was heard through out the spa, during services. i'm sorry but....WHO ON EARTH WOULD BRING AN INFANT INTO THE SPA?!?!?!?!?!?! I MEAN WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?!!!! -LET ALONE MANAGEMENT ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I was also informed that it is typically standard policy to not allow children under the age of sixteen onto the spa unless they are receiving services.... so what's with the crying screaming baby and the idiot mother thinking that would be cool?!?!
Really very disappointing....
- Pros: staff, facials, aveda
- Cons: baby allowed on spa floor? thin walls
AMAZING SALON!! I love the people. Don't knock it before you try it.
by SpaCat08
Regardless of what these other moronic women might think, Dosha is fantastic. I love the people here, they know exactly what they are doing. I go for a cut and color once a month, i have a massage at least that often and they're always friendly. My hair has been sub par once, but they graciously offered to take care of it for free as soon as I asked. Clean, friendly, always open, reasonably priced for an upscale salon. Don't be afraid to tell them what you like!! They aren't mind readers>
AND DONT FORGET WHEN READING THESE REVIEWS THAT PEOPLE DO LIE! THEY WILL LIE TO DETER BUSINESS FROM A PLACE JUST TO BE SPITEFUL!! Dosha is LOCALLY owned and operated, and they're amazing!! Don't knock it before you try it!
- Pros: Competitive pricing, Great staff, relaxing atmosphere, LOVE IT ALL!
- Cons: Snobby CLIENTELLE sometimes and parking can be tricky.
Pretentious and don't know what they are doing
by sueb73
Dosha is a bust. I used to live in New York and San Francisco - i.e. I know what a good salon should be. Dosha is a total scam. The salons are beautiful, but the people working there don't know what they are doing. I tried every type of service just hoping that they would get one right, but no such luck. I'm a professional woman (lawyer, chemical engineer), and I was laughed at for requesting a professional manicure (no color, just clear), and walked away greasy from the service. A friend of mine went there & requested a "professional" haircut - they gave her this trendy young 20-something horror. I was burned getting a brazilian wax, and the masseuse ignored everything I told her about my preferences.
If you know good salon services, just skip them. Try Jane Cowan for waxing/facials.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: all services
