Temperate year-round climate creates the perfect setting to enjoy prime chardonnays, pinot noirs, sauvignon blancs and pinot gris.

In Short
For more than 30 years, Oregon vintners have worked hard to put Northwest wines on the oenophile map. Today Oregon has more than 100 wineries and 9,000 acres of vineyards. Visitors from Portland take Highway 99 south for about 15 miles, until they stop by Ponzi, Cooper Mountain, Beran and Oak Knoll. Towards Newberg and Dundee are such wineries as Erath, Adelsheim and Argyle. Down towards McMinnville are Sokol Blosser and Eyrie.

Perfect Day away from the City

by winegirl1

I felt like I was in Napa or Tuscany, only miles from Portland. Gorgeous scenery, great wine, and good food. What a surprise find. Loved the restaurants and wineries in Dundee the best, Carlton also very nice.

We're not in Napa?

by lisdoonvarnagirl

The ability to get up in the morning and decide you are going to spend the day wine-tasting is a treat we are lucky to enjoy. I have my favorite wineries, but always like to try a new one. The staff are almost always welcoming and knowledgable. Occasionally you get someone who thinks they are working in a California winery and aren't too friendly. Taking a picnic lunch is always great. The landscape is beautiful in spring and even better in the fall. Taking a map that includes open-close hours is a must.

  • Pros: great wine, nice drives
  • Cons: it's overdeveloped, cost

Amazing!

by marissabaker

This has become my favorite place to go! As a new resident to Oregon, I was in heaven when I discovered the wineries. The countyside is magnificent and you can fool yourself into thinking your in France. My advice is to take more time to discover the wineries off the main highway. The mile or two out of your way is definetely worth it!

  • Pros: Scenic beauty, Great wines, Close to home
  • Cons: Crowds, Traffic on Highway

Fall in Wine Country

by UP2SKI

A fall drive through the Chehalem Valley from Forest Grove to Newberg topped off by a lunch in Dundee is a fabulous way to spend a day.
