It's true. I'm not as cool as the guys that work at World Cup. I've come to accept it. I'm not a hipster who is aspiring to be a shi**y musician. Just be aware that when you order coffee from one of these guys, you will really be putting them out. It's probably because you're not cool enough either.

Pros: Coffee

Cons: Hipsters

The shop is great. Consistently high quality coffee roasted on site without the barista attitude found at Stumptown. Also the atmosphere is great, upscale but comfortable, so you could spend hours here. The free wifi, desserts and sandwiches are a plus as well.

Cons: Parking sometimes is difficult

I have some friends that love this coffee shop, I on the other hand dont see anything special. The atmosphere is boring and the coffee just ok. They do offer a wifi connection and board games which brings in a lot of college students with laptops. By the way the service I have had here is awful. The counter guy was rude and throwing stuff around.

Pros: close in coffee shop with wireless internet

Cons: bad service and not so great coffee

Hey leave the poor baristas alone! It's the coffee that's inconsistent! I've worked in the neighborhood for years and I just never know when the coffee will be good (or very rarely great) and when it will just be plain old average. If they weren't the closest, I probably wouldn't come back.

Pros: wifi

Cons: inconsistent coffee

I do not agree with all of the negative comments about this coffee shop. I love the atmosphere, which is very calm and completely reflects NW Portland. Many of the employees know what I want as soon as I walk though the door and usually start casual conversation . The employees are always friendly to me, but not a fake friendly like other coffee shops in town. Some coffee shops have employees that are way too friendly and make me feel like they are told to be overly energetic. At World Cup, it is genuine, like it should be. Hands down, they make the best coffee in town, and i do not have to wait long at all to get my order. I appreciate the employees there and enjoy it very much.

Pros: quick service, friendly employees, great coffee

I'm surprised that this is rated 9.4 at this time. I have to agree with prior posts - good coffee inconsistent service. I can understand people having a bad day but. A flippant attitude is the norm when I stop by every now and again. My advise if you want to experience World Cup and not have to shake of a not so welcome feeling when you order... got the location in the Ecotrust building.

I have worked in customer service and I know both sides. I ordered a coffee and a pastry to go. I waited by the pick up counter and received my coffee but no pastry. There was a line by the cash register, so I waited patiently by the pickup counter but I was ignored. I got back in the regular line. The lady asked me what she could get for me. I explained to her about my pastry, and she rang me up for it! I slowly explained again the situation. Then I had to dig out my receipt and show her. She finally handed me a bag with the pastry. Once I left it was the wrong one!!! If I had known it would've been so much trouble I would've walked to the one in Powells- at least they know how to smile!

Pros: good coffee

Cons: incompetent servers

i'm a regular at the world cup and seriously... have you ever worked customer service before? i have. it sucks. try any coffee shop in town. i know what it's like to be on both sides of the counter. cut them some slack. so you had a bad experience. you are one person out of how many that walk through the door every day. remember, bad customers can ruin someone's day too, and they deal with more people than you do. personally, i've been treated well and i'll keep going.

Pros: coffee, music

Cons: customer princess

I have to agree with the previous member, that the employees of this establishment seem to be too good for their jobs- CUSTOMER SERVICE! Without me, and other customers, YOU wouldn't have a place to collect your paychecks- so don't give us attitude. Starbucks, although less than stellar coffee, HAS learned that giving your guest a smile and pleasant chatter is the way to win their hearts.... that is called customer service! So please, management, coach your people on how to be agreeable and be service oriented, because I love your coffee but HATE your staff.

Pros: great coffee

Cons: Bad Service Abounds, Frowns Mandatory, Snotty is Fashionable

How hard is it to smile at your customers? This has to be one the most unfriendly coffee house staffs that I have encountered yet. My girlfriend were happy to move 1 block away from World Cup, a highly rated coffee house. That was until we noticed that every time we went in to get a coffee whoever was at the counter (it didn't really seem to matter who) would barely acknowledge us standing right in front of them as they grabbed our cash with their grubby little espresso stained hands. Come on people, I'll admit that your coffee tastes pretty good, but your not changing the world so don't act like its such a stinking privilege to step foot in the door.

Cons: unpleasant staff

Insider Tips

Save Money

If you're ordering a plain cup of joe, get a medium. It's only a few cents more than a small, but comes in a giant, latte-sized cup. Drink it on-site for best flavor--ceramic always tastes better than paper.
