Bad Changes
by Bean2323
I use to frequent this restaurant quite often. That is not the case anymore. The last couple of times I have gone the food quality has gone down hill. They changed the menu and I was excited to see and try the new things. They were tasteless. So the last time I ate here I ordered one of the original items thinking it would be the same as it was. Boy was I wrong, it was very bland.
Good Beaverton Happy Hour
by wuestr
This is a good stop for happy hour with average drink prices (albeit on some very good beer) but excellent food prices and very good selections. The location in a strip mall is less than exceptional, but the interior is quite nice and it is apparent that the owner(s) pay close attention to detail. I prefer dining downtown, however this is one of my favorite places for staying in Beaverton.
- Pros: happy hour
- Cons: location in strip mall
Just average food for an upsce price!"
by CSMobileUser
unlike the other reviewers, we were not overjoyed with the high prices and lack of quality food. Thankfully they had Passport and other discounted programs going through 2008, unfortunately, they did not keep any of these important programs so we doubt it would be worth it to try this place again in this economy
Amazing Food and Great Prices
by silensunus
This was an amazing find.
I came here with my sister, we love to eat out at locally owned restaurants and it is pretty hard to find places close, but this is definitely one of them.
We took advantage of the amazing Happy Hour, and we both loved it. Getting 25% off all food is an amazing deal.
We were seated right away and the waitress was right at our table to take our drink orders. While the service seemed a little slow for the lack of people in the restaurant, my sister and I love to talk and chat so it wasn't that noticeable.
My sister and I will definitely be coming back.
Another thing that made me eager to try this restaurant was the the owners take the time to reply to reviews. This seems like a really hands on great thing to do. I figure that someone taking the time to reply to reviews would also take the time to build a really great place, and it certainly is that!
- Pros: Great Food, Amazing Happy Hour
Warm, inviting but missing some things...
by truthbearer
My wife and I enjoy good food and even though we live in the area we tend to find ourselves driving into Portland to have good food from locally owned restaurants (we really try to support only those places). So that tells you how hard it is to a place close to home.
We decided to try one of the few locally owned/operated in Beaverton. I have been here before a long time ago, it wasn't a memorable evening the first time so we decided to try to give them another chance.
Times are tough right now and business are slow. So when we walked in it was almost empty. As fast as we were greeted and sat, it took quite a few minutes for our server to acknowledged us. A pet peeve with 99% of customers.
The menu prices where fine. The beers are overpriced! As I said I eat out a lot and I don't know one restaurant in Portland that I have paid more then 4.50 for beer, and that includes places like El Gaucho and Blue Hour. The beers here are 4.95 a glass that's more then a well drinks around town! That was a big turn off for us right away. My wife ordered the "Trummer" and it came in it's own glass, That's a 13oz glass . So we were paying 4.95 for a 13oz beer.
Your a neighborhood bar if you want to see your neighbors more often, lower your beer to $4 or 3.50 even or maybe do $3 Thursdays. You still make good money and I can afford some food too then.". I would definitely be there a lot more often just for that.
You guys are suffering with the economy, we understand, but so are we, you need customers we need cheaper beers.
By the way our food was very good!! The wine list could use a little more originality but it was fine for what your trying to do. I did like the wine pairing with your specials though. Great recommendations!
But our server was just ok, not memorable. It's all about the whole experience. I like servers that "let their hair down" those are the ones that people will write about. You have a great place and I know your extremely proud of it and it shows.
- Pros: Food, Wine pairing with specials, ambience
- Cons: expensive beers, boring servers
Thank you for your efforts to keep prices reasonable

I am a consistent diner-outer and visited Monteaux for the first time on Saturday. I was pleased to find a neighborhood favorite just down the road. The ambience was a pleasant surprise! We were seated by a friendly fellow and we ordered burgers which were very nicely priced and made to order (I like a burger on the pink side). While I was not in the mood for an alcoholic beverage I noticed some intriguing selections on the menu, for next time. It did not escape my notice that the soda my companion ordered was priced much more reasonably than many other restaurants in the area ($1.69, I believe?). If I had one criticism, it would be that my waitress (a little on the shy side) noticed that we ready to pay and could not excuse herself from a long conversation at another table to take our payment. Thanks for the good meal, we'll be back!
- Pros: Good Ambience, Good Food
- Cons: No One Said Goodbye When I Left.
Great ambiance, great food

How much my husband and I think of Monteaux?s might be measured by the fact that we chose to go there for dinner on our tenth wedding anniversary. Sure, it?s just a small, neighborhood pub, but that?s what we love about it. It reminds me a little of my dad?s pub when I was growing up ? dad and the pub are gone now, but I always remember both fondly when we walk over to Monteaux?s.
The good people at Monteax?s probably have no idea how many special occasions we?ve celebrated with them. Besides our anniversary, it?s the place we went on the evening of the day I received my Master?s degree from Portland State. It?s the place we take out-of-town visitors at least once during their stay (my brother swears they?ve ruined him for fish and chips anyplace else, and my mother says if they stop making the amaretto mousse she won?t come to visit me anymore). Good food, good prices, good service, great atmosphere?can?t beat it! My only regret is that, in regards to their awesome fish and chops (served on faux ?newspaper? ? ya gotta love it!), they stopped offering a choice of 2 pieces or four pieces and now offer a standard 4 (I think). It pains me to waste food, and I miss the smaller portion option. But it?s true oversized portions are a problem with many restaurants.
Keep up the good work!
One of the best Happy Hours
by punkrawker4783
We have only been for Happy Hour.....5 times...its 25% off everything, they don't limit what. The burgers are VERY good, and tasty. We have found that the service is pretty good, our drinks are kept up to par, and they make sure your happy. They have a different appetizer, entree and dessert feature every month based on the country of the month. The desserts are very yummy too, oh, you can get perogis as an appetizer. My ONLY complaint is that if you want to swap fries for a salad, it is now $1.50 to do so, I have yet to find any other place that does this, I firmly believe that you should not have to shell out extra for a salad to go with your burger. Other than that, I highly recommend them, we will keep going.
- Pros: Happy Hour, Food, Service
- Cons: Salad Swap/Substitute Charge
I will be becoming a regular here!
by mzliz1978
I have heard about Monteaux's for years now and even used to work at a nearby hotel that recommended it, but I went there for the first time this weekend. The outside tables looked great, but they were full so we ate inside. The atmosphere is nice, the staff was very friendly and attentive, and the food was great. We both had pasta dishes (my husband had the creole chicken fettucini - excellent! and I had the wild mushroom ravioli - very good although could use just a bit of creaminess to balance out the drier, earthier flavors). We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and plan on adding this restaurant to our list of regular places to go out to dinner. I highly recommend it!
- Pros: good food, good service, nice atmosphere
- Cons: none!
Best Casual Dining in the Westside
by jmtt
Downtown Portland offers many fine dining choices, but out in the Westside, the pickings are pretty slim. MPH is a breath of fresh air when you don't feel like the hassle of going downtown, and you don't feel like putting a deep dent into your wallet at Hall St Bar & Grill (also a fine Westside dining choice, but quite a bit more expensive than MPH).
I'm sort of hard pressed to categorize the main menu -- I think calling it simply "American" does it an injustice since the choices are much more appealing than the meat-and-potatoes image that phrase conjures. I'll call it "Haute American" for lack of a better phrase. The main menu is supplemented by a monthly rotation of ethnic specials if you want to venture to more exotic culinary destinations.
The only (minor) complaint I have about MPH is their habit of deleting my favorites from their standard menu. They used to offer an amazing Chorizo Burger and Guinness Stout that I still dearly miss. And when I then declared their Pork Shank to be my new favorite, that also was deleted (perhaps not permanently?). Of the remaining mainstays, I'd recommend the Stuffed Salmon as a good starting point, but I don't think you can go far wrong with anything on the menu.
Service is generally good, sometimes excellent, and has never dropped below average (I've been going there about once a month since they opened). I'm always bewildered by the number of criticisms I see leveled at MPH's service. And the owners are among the most attentive that I've ever seen anywhere (as evidenced by their replies to reviews on this board). MPH always makes me feel like a valued customer -- and I say this even though they deleted my beloved Chorizo burger :-)
Its combination of good food, fair prices, and convenience makes MPH my favorite dining choice in all the Westside.
- Pros: Convenient, good food and drink selection, attentive service, moderate prices
