Belmont Computers is No More
by ErikT
Belmont computers went out of business in August of 08. Several original employees of Belmont Computer and customers have gotten together and opened a new computer repair shop called Red Star Machine Works at the same location with the same phone number. They are trying to bring that community computer love back to the neighborhood and fix people's computers fairly and correctly.
- Pros: Red Star Machine Works has taken it's place
- Cons: none
WARNING: They changed their name to RED STAR MACHINEWORKS
by geekgoddess
This place is now called Red Star. Caution---it is the same people. The place is totally going to annoy you, infuriate you, and make you wish you had never gone there. A cute name isn't going to change their unethical practices.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: lacking in basic ethical behavior
Unprofessional and dishonest
by raebarr52
This place is very unprofessional and dishonest. 3 years ago when they were at the former location I took in a very old laptop to have the data transferred to CD. Was told it would take up to a week for a simple project! They kept it for over 2 weeks, and kept putting me off every time I called. Finally I went in there and demanded to see the manager and try to get something done. This guy told me the computer was dead and nothing could be done to save the data. For this false information I was charged $20 before they would give me my laptop back. After taking it to another shop which also ended up being a disaster for different reasons with a different computer, I discovered Belmont Computers had never even turned it on because there were 2 entry passwords I had forgotten to give them. They never called to ask what those were. I sent a demand letter threatening legal action if I did not receive an immediate refund. 2 days later I received a refund check in the mail. This shop is unprofessional and dishonest but sadly it is typical of many computer repair shops. I have had trouble with 2 others in Portland as well, with different computers. I don't trust computer repair shops, period!
- Pros: good central location
- Cons: lying, putting off working on it, charging for doing nothing
One of Portland's Best Deals!
by MrStix
I have been to computer shops from coast to coast, and this one is one of the best I have had to fortune of doing business with. Their prices are great, the staff knows what they're doing, and their labor rates are crazy low. Yeh, sometimes they might have one of my computers for a while, but they have it for way less time than it would take me to figure out and fix my own problems. Without BC, I would have a lot less money and a bunch of really angry clients, thanks for saving my butt Belmont Computers!
- Pros: Great Prices, Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff, Good Location
- Cons: None
A bunch of idiots!
by quizzy
They took weeks longer than projected, cost several times what they quoted, and I still had to call someone in to fix my computer. While at Belmont Computers I lost many desktop programs, and I have reason to believe things were stolen. This place is not to be recommended at all. They need to go away. If you try to reason with them, they only get belligerent. I tried very hard to set things straight with them because they are in a good location for me when I am in Portland, but they are as my title states.
- Pros: would be a good location for me when i am in my portland office
- Cons: serious lack of ability, total lack of professionalism, bad luck all the way around
Dissatisfied customer, sorry....
by happyhen
I would take my computer back to them for the third time, but every time I take it in they keep in much longer than they claim they will, and I am tired of being without my computer. Now looking for a smart nice person I can trust to take a look at it here in my home office, and I have no doubt whomever I chose will be miles ahead of anyone in that business. They didn't fix the problem but they did overcharge me. After I took it back the second time, they were pretty darn rude.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Lack of skill and not very nice.
Caution: Very Unprofessional Staff and Management - Proceed at your own risk...

Spending three times the original quote; waiting three weeks when I was quoted 48 hours; and being subjected to the worst possible group of losers I have ever seen = My Belmont Computer Experience. Talk about bad language. You would have thought it was my fault my computer had a problem and they couldn't fix it... They left many issues undone and I had to hire a professional to fix it AFTER they had reamed me for $340. I strongly suggest that people look elsewhere when they have business problems with their computers. This place is anything but business like and it's odd that they've lasted this long. When I left I told them I would get on citysearch to file a review and they got a good laugh over that one.
- Pros: close southeast location
- Cons: lack of skill, lack of interpersonal skills, lack of management, lack of caring
Not recommended! Read ALL the reviews and proceed to this place at your own risk!

We took ALL of our computers to Belmont to be networked and cleaned up. We did not get our computers back for FIVE WEEKS, even though we were promised them within 10 days. It really hurt our business. Any complaints we had were met with rudeness, swearing, and complete lack of caring. People were absent from the job, someone had a cold, the boss was out of town, there was every excuse in the world. In the end, we hired a professional to complete the job. We ended up paying Belmont Computers 3 times the amount they quoted. No amount of reasoning could effect them. Worst place in Portland. What a nightmare.
- Pros: in the neighborhood -- but I should have went someplace eldse
- Cons: bad service, lack of skill level, terrible attitude, actually they can be mean and repulsive
I won't go back
by annielaura
I did not have a very good experience at Belmont. We took our computer in, they told us to come in the following day and get it. When we got there it wasn't done. Also, when we got it back home there were screws missing from the bottom of the computer. I think we made a total of five visits there just to get the data recovered from our hard drive.
Pros: They only charged us 25$ for the service. Some of the employees were very nice.
Cons: Some weren't nice and all of them were pretty cocky. I don't think I every saw one of them smile. Is customer service really so hard?
Best Deal in Portland period
by mike_ock
These guys are great I have had to take my laptop in one time after 3 different people told me they were the best. They fixed my problem with my wireless and it only cost me $50. I looked at other shops and they wanted anywhere from $65(other small shops) -249(Best Buys Geek Squad). They were a little backed up with work so it took 4 days until they were able to look at it but they did offer a faster service option if you needed it. I came back to them and they built me a screaming new gaming PC for a fair price. One of there Techs sat down and spent a good 20 minutes helping me decide how to get the best deal for my budget. I have sent my mother to them when she had problems and she knew nothing about her computer and they explained everything she need to have her problem solved and not feel completely lost in the process.
