Deceitful, Dishonest Watch out!!
by jan4321 at Citysearch
We just moved here from out of state. This shop was recommended to us. Our Chevy Tahoe needed repair to the air conditioning. We could have had it done in California for under $500. Unfortunately we ran out of time and had it done here in Beaverton at Canyon Auto Repair. When we picked up the truck the bill was $3500. We could not believe it! We will never use this shop again. We have three cars and we were looking for a good mechanic. To bad for him he just lost a potential long term customer.
IN RESPONSE TO YOUR COMMENT TO US. I don't know why it was such a surprise that we were upset. When we picked up the Chevy, it was very obvious we were alarmed while viewing our bill. Funny no one came out to discuss it then. Its only when a customer posts a negative comment online that your concerned Customer Service Department takes an interest. I wonder why that is. I WONDER HOW MANY OF THESE NEW POSTS ARE THE REAL DEAL. IT SEEMS AFTER POSTING A NEGATIVE COMMENT SHOP IS TRYING TO BOMBARD THIS SITE WITH POSITIVE COMMENTS.
Ok so here it is July of 2009, 11 months after Lee "repaired" our Tahoe. We payed him to resurface the brake rotors and install new pads. Just found out that the pads have already worn down and had another shop look at what Lee had done. We found out that he had not resurfaced the rotors and had installed the pads over the warped rotors. I called him to ask for a refund his response was the F bomb and to hire a lawyer. This guy is a very dishonest. I will be reporting him to the consumer watch group.
Lucked out finding this one

I found these guys a year ago when my car busted some hoses. I called them almost a year later when I wanted my alternator replaced, and their quote was less than it would have cost me to buy and install the part myself.
They've stuck to their quotes both times; and to top it off they actually remembered me from my first visit.
I've definitely found my auto shop.
- Pros: Quick.
- Cons: Hard to find
Great shop in hiding!

My Volvo was having a problem with the wipers and I had been told by other shops it was a wiring harness problem that Volvos were famous for and would cost more than the car was worth. I go t the feeling they just did not want to work on my car (maybe they did not know how?) Lee assured me he could fix the car. When I arrived the first thing I saw was another car like mine in the shop and that made me feel better. In less than a day and for only $90 my wipers were working. Made a believer out of me.
- Pros: Great repairs at a reasonable price
- Cons: Parkng and location not easy

for items under the hood, they can do an reasonable job. for other things, try somewhere else.
took my car there for miscellaneous body work. they not only did *not* correctly repair *any* of the items, they totally ignored my information on what 2 of the items needed. had they at least checked them out, i'd not have spent hundreds of dollars on bogus work.
as well, the operator of this place seems to be a tad moody. and there seems to be a communication problem with the shop floor staff.
i have no doubt the operator knows a lot about cars. this place is just not worth the trouble.
- Pros: can do some kinds of repairs well
- Cons: out of their league in many ways

No Better AutoShop in PDX
by RicJamze at Citysearch
I have to admit it: I hate seeing Lee and Canyon Auto. It's through no fault of their own however. Most of the basic periodic maintenance I do is by oil/ tire shops so when I go to Canyon auto it's because something bad happened to my Pathfinder.
With that said, I have had nothing but stellar service from Canyon auto. The prices are low. When I moved to Portland, I needed to find a permanent mechanic so I did prices checks on the several shops when I needed to get DEQ ready. Canyon Auto's were lower; in fact they didn't charge me for the inspection like the other two shops wanted to do.
As far as service is concerned, despite how busy they get, they kept me informed each time I had work done. They also understand that without a car, its difficult to get back to the mechanic shop so (since I live close) they even gave me a ride to/from the house. They also understand that to have a job, people need to go to work, because of that little known fact, they also are open weekends and after 5 PM. This alone makes them better than most auto shops.
Finally, everything they fixed has never had to be returned for rework.
The only place I will take my truck is Canyon Auto.
- Pros: Price, Service, Quality
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Get quotes from other shop or dealer to compare
by DeeKing at Citysearch
you have to know cars to see if you get the best deal or needed repairs. Lee is very good at sales pitch and played down dealer pricing and other shops. also CHECK CHECK CHECK the repair before leaving...Second opinions from other shops is definately needed if you're not sure what wrong with your cars or required repairs
- Pros: good sales pitch
- Cons: honesty

Professional honest experienced auto repair

I bought a 1990 Volvo 740 GLE to be my winter car, the tags were expired and my main goal was to get it to pass DEQ. It was loud and needed some exhaust repair and what ever else to pass DEQ so I took it to Meineke (The one in Beaverton on TV HWY just west of cedar hills blvd), they did some exhaust work and screwed it up! it wouldn't idle right and the check engine light was on. I took the car back and the manager argued with me and said they made the car better . My car failed DEQ emissions and smoke after Meineke supposedly repaired it.
Anyway I was fed up with those Meineke liars and took my car to Canyon Auto Repair. They told me exactly what I needed and how much it would cost and that they would test the car to make sure it will pass DEQ. When I got my car back it ran GREAT! and I took it to DEQ and it passed with flying colors. The staff at Canyon Auto repair are courteous and friendly and I'll defiantly recommend them to my friends and will be bringing my Volvo to them for repair from now on :)

Consistently good service
by Comms at Citysearch
I've taken my Ford Explorer and VW Beetle in for both service and maintenance and in all cases have gotten excellent service. I have found Lee to be honest in his dealigns and his prices to be well below what others charge in the area. I have recommended this shop to my friends and they've had similar experiences.

Honest, friendly, excellent mechanics
by JLarson8 at Citysearch
I heartily endorse Canyon Auto Repair. We take both of our vehicles there and always receive great service. I had some small items and they didn't even charge me for them. They are very accurate on their estimates and the work is always done right. They have the diagnostic tools to work on any type of car. Lee & Rick are great to talk to and always answer my questions right away and with a great attitude. I have the utmost confidence in their abilities and trust them with our vehicles. It is hard to find honest mechanics, so I am glad I found them.

Not Worth It
by chrisnt13 at Citysearch
We paid $1000 for a routine tune up & front brakes on a Jeep Truck. The end result? We were out $1000 bucks and the truck had problems it had never had before... It actually had trouble starting & would putter at times. Wasn't doing that before - seems a bit odd right?
I had another mechanic look at it (since I don't know a thing about cars). He said if we paid for a tune up, he wasn't sure what we got for it. After we paid the new mechanic to give it ANOTHER tune-up, it ran like it was supposed to.
We also had Canyon Auto take a look at a "clanking" noise that the truck made when you turned right or left. They told us the transmission was going out. When we took it to the new mechanic, they replaced the fluid in the transfer case & the "clanking" went away. Not a transmission problem...
My recommendation - do not go to these guys. Just like the reviewer below said... they're clever...

Outstanding auto repair shop
by Michael6x6 at Citysearch
Lee and Rick and all the staff at Canyon Auto Repair deserve a huge thank you from this customer. Though very busy, they have always made time for quick and accurate diagnosis of my car problems. I have been in for several cars and Lee and Rick fixed me right up, always performing the work while I waited. Try that at a dealer... Often, if it's a small thing, they have even done work for me at no charge, again, try that at a dealer. I have also had semi-major work done at Canyon, and the estimates are always to the penny. I have no problem recommending CAR (Canyon Auto Repair) to anyone needing mechanical service. They also use NEW, OEM parts, as Lee will tell you, rebuilds are simply not an option. So in summary, from oil changes to complete engine rebuilds and body work, CAR is the shop you can trust.
