How hard is it to get a burger right?

by toddlisonbee

We ordered med-rare and got over-done. Probably the worst burger experience of my life. McDonald's would have been better than the cardboard we were served. I've never had a bad experience at any other restaurant on 28th. You can do better!

  • Pros: Nice pickled element on burger
  • Cons: Beef tasted like cardboard

Great happy hour!

by bristolbear

I met a friend down the street at Bamboo Sushi for dinner. I wasn't ready to call it a night so we headed to Wine Down. I had no idea the place was there! It was inviting, comfortable, and little did I know they had a great happy hour! We were there after 6:30 but were really there just for a glass of wine. We ended up ordering a cheese plate which was pleasing. Will definitely be back to try the happy hour menu. I met the owner Stuart. Very cool guy! I tried to talk him into being on Forkfly! We'll see how that goes. If he were on Forkfly, I would definitely be back to sample the nonhappy hour menu too! Gotta watch the spending now a days!

  • Pros: Great happy hour prices!
  • Cons: Not on Forkfly.

Best Happy Hour

by GraceQB

A frield of mine took me to Wine Down a few months ago. The lamb lollipops were so tender and tasty topped with port braised cherries. The quinoa cake was also amazing crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with a little heat from drizzles of Spanish chili sauce. ! I try to make it for happy hour and there was a time when I couldn't find parking and it was almost 6:30 so I called Stuart . He was happy to put in an order for me and it was ready as I walked in. You can find me at the bar 2-3 times a week, especially during happy hour!

  • Pros: Tasty and high quality menu items, friendly and knowledgeable staff!
  • Cons: Parking, very popular area

Great spot for wine with great atmosphere and service!

by buttahfly

We went to Wine Down for happy hour this week and I was amazed at how many great wines they had and how inexpensive they were! We tried quite a few of the house wines offered, which were great. The server was very nice and also very helpful with the wine. At the happy hour price of only $4, you can try them all! The pours are generous too! We also tried quite a few of the apps, which honestly were tremendous. the gnocchi was unbelievable and we also loved the meat & cheese plate. It wasn't packed in there, which made it extremely chill to talk to your friends and relax. The owner came by to check on us a few times which is a personal favorite touch of mine. I just have to say that it was great experience & I'm glad this place is now in my rotation! I will definitely be going back.

  • Pros: Great selection, great prices, great food!
  • Cons: can't think of any...

Great atmosphere, excellent wine, top-notch service

by mrb65

I have been wanting to check out Wine Down for a long time. Over the years I have seen the dimly lit aura of this quaint bar from the street while I have been in the neighborhood but have always had other plans. It's a great place to go on a cold evening, hang out and drink good wine, listen to low-volume acoustic guitar, and enjoy the cozy vibe and ambient lighting. Thumbs up to the highly recommended Barbera along with the delicious meat and cheese appetizer platter! Great knowledgable staff without the 'wine snob' attitude.

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, wine, and food

No matter if you choose to "wine" down or just "wind" down this is a great place for either!

by fergie6400

This was are first time here and we know it will not be our last. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We can recommend the Lobster Hash, Pork Roulade and the Chicken Kiev. We don't drink but others in our party did and they were impressed with the wine they selected as well as the extenssive wine list. The young chefs really did a great job with all the dishes. A relaxing place made all the more relaxing with the soft live music playing in the background. Give it a try. We are sure you will enjoy it as much as we did.

  • Pros: Good Food, Good Value, Good Service
  • Cons: None

A must for any visitor or resident!

by Tiggerlover

This is a first time message but a must give one. On our first family get together in Portland we were able to get our party of 10 into this wonderful little restaurant and able to have one of the best meals ever! We were able to statisfy the tastebuds of ages 9-75. Our party had every dish that was on the menu and not one complaint could be made. The meats and sauces were exceptional. We even did some sharing around the table. We were heartely greated at the door by the owner and promptly shown a table and wine list. The waiter was an absolute delight and attentive to every need at the table. We were even able to talk with the Cook Jeremy during a few spare moments of his time. Thanks Jeremy for such a wonderful and tasty dining experience! We will definetly make this restraunt a must stop for on the next get together.

I love this place!

by linzes

I came to this restaurant about a year and a half ago. It was my sisters graduation and birthday and I wanted to find a place with great food, great wine but still casual and fun. after searching through restaurants online for hours I came across this one and instantly loved it. Maybe it was the name, all I know is I made a reservation for 10 people and when we arrived they had pulled out tables and chairs to the sidewalk. It was great. The service was incredible, the food and wine even more so and the french press coffee was the best I've ever had (I ran a coffee shop for years so this was a big deal). Its been awhile now since Ive been back but thats just because Im an idiot for forgetting this little wonder exists. I plan on spending my birthday next month with all my friends and family at this place and I know it will be great. So to the person who wrote that ridiculous review, its obvious that you have no taste whatsoever. I love it!

  • Pros: perfect as is
  • Cons: none
