If you are looking for a restaurant that serves Thai and other Asian delights, Chopsticks is your place. After a long day of walking and shopping on Hawthorne, Chopsticks is a great place to cool off and fill your stomach. If you happen to eat what the average American eats, you will be able to feed yourself on more than one occasion with the same plate. Each portion is large and adequately priced.

  • Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Good Price
  • Cons: Soup nazi owner

My boyfriend and I went to Chopsticks last year, and we really like the place. We ordered Calamari as appetizers and it was great! We ordered two main dishes, one of them being a fried rice dish. The fried rice included Chinese sausage, and my boyfriend loves it!

The atmosphere is great and the staff is friendly. One thing I don't like about the place was the placement of the table. It was really cold when anyone enter and leave at the place my boyfriend and I were seated. Other than that, I would recommend Chopstick to everyone.

  • Pros: Food, service, atmosphere
  • Cons: Parking, same place

The food is fantastic. I try to come here as often as I could. My favorite dish here has to be the garlic green beans. Appetizer you ask? Hot and sour soup with salad rolls. To top off the meal with a nice chilly Thai Iced Tea that is always made to perfection every time I go there. Along with great customer service, what more can you ask?

  • Pros: Garlic Greenbeans, Fried Calamari, Thai Iced Tea, Great Customer Service
  • Cons: The far table in the back of the restaurant

I wish I had read the reviews before I went. I went to Chopsticks for lunch today and it was almost empty inside. Not sure why-there were plenty of tables and the interior was nice and cool. Maybe because there are a lot of other restaurants in the area?

I ordered the General Tsao's Chicken to go and it came with hot and sour soup for $5.25. I ate the soup first and it was wonderful-spicy and fresh with some different herbs than the usual fare. The fried rice was pretty good too. But the General Tsao's Chicken was really bad-way too salty, too chewy, and not at all spicy. I wish I had gotten one of the noodle bowls since it had sounded good and is apparently the dish to get there from what I've read here. I might try it again, but will not get the traditional American-Chinese dishes.

  • Pros: Hot & Sour Soup, Fried rice, Customer service, Ambience
  • Cons: General Tsoa's Chicken & probably all other American-Chinese entrees

This place is very good if you want some quick varied take out with plenty to like for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The take-out is good and quick, service is prompt and courteous and the food is pretty tasty, as long as you're not aiming for anything that's especially mind-blowing or authentic.

A fine combination of comfort food and southeast Asian favorites... the appetizers in particular are quite tasty.

  • Pros: Decent food, good prices, courteous service
  • Cons: Not the place to go if you're wanting really authentic thai/vietnamese/chinese

I've been to chopsticks many times and I've never had a bad meal there. The curry is delicious, along with the cashew chicken and the kung pao. I like the fact that they have a selection of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai food to choose from, so there is quite a variety. A little expensive for dinner, but nothing more than you would usually pay at a nice Thai restaurant for example.

  • Pros: variety of asian cuisine, love the cashew chicken and thai iced teas
  • Cons: somewhat of a smaller space, but still doesn't feel too crowded

I moved to the Hawthorne area about a year ago and have not found a decent Chinese restaurant. Today, I had a big hankering for chow mein and I remembered there was a place on Hawthorne. I ordered the tofu soft noodle chow mein. I got home, opened it and from the smell and sight of it, my appetite went away. First, it doesn't have the traditional thick sauce. Secondly, the vegetables are barely cooked. Thirdly, the flavor was almost disgusting. It was almost like leftover dirty dishwater (not that I would truly know what that tastes like, but that's what I'd imagine it to be). It's definitely not the Take out Chinese I think of in the little take out box I normally get. Where did they get the idea that this was good? Maybe they specialize in the other Asian dishes (Thai and Vietnamese), but they certainly don't do justice to the Chinese.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: Definitely the food.

In Short
This neighborhood eatery features a dark, glam-lounge look. Asian sensibilities temper the beetroot and pistachio color scheme with spare, sedate and functional decor. The menu has a range of Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese dishes. Stellar starters include crisp fried wontons with dense meat filling, crunchy salad rolls and pork-filled potstickers. For entrees, there's the vermicelli noodle bowl with grilled pork or the steaming-hot pho, a perfect balance of strong beef stock and pungent basil.

the food here was great! we had the orange chicken and garlic green beans... both were really tasty and cooked to perfection. the hot-and-sour soup was also great... its thick and has a unique (but good) flavor. our waiter was very friendly, and the service was prompt! i'll definitley be going here again soon.

  • Pros: good food, great location
  • Cons: none!

I've been to Chopsticks many times with friends and family and I've never been disappointed. Even when they're busy, hot food arrives just moments after ordering. Decent portions, delicious food, quick service, and extremely cheap prices. The $5.95 lunch special includes your choice of entree, hot & sour or egg flower soup, rice or salad, and spring or salad roll. Give it a try, I think you'll enjoy it.

  • Pros: quick, cheap, yum
  • Cons: tough to find parking, small dining room

I love Thai food, all asian foods, I'm really very forgiving. but this was easily, hands down the worst restaraunt experience I have had in Portland in my 10 years here. From the irritated and impatient waiter, to the hard squares of chopped carrots and celery that they call "kung pao". I ordered the kung pao tofu, and although it was cheap, I would paid more for a decent meal. I got three small pieces of mushy tofu and a LOT of celery and carrot squares, almost no flavor, just abissmal. Reminded me of frozen dinner or something. College flashbacks, yuk. The two people with me also hated their dishes, some blue-green soup called "curried pork", and the pad thai. All three were gross, and none of us will EVER go back. Again, yuk.

  • Pros: cheap
  • Cons: bad food, bad attitudes, weird decor
