Absolutely Amazing

by dede72

I recently found Pure from a recommendation from another board member and am so thankful. Upon entering i was immediately greeted and asked if I wanted tea while I filled out my intake information, classy touch. The woman who greeted me was the most gracious and comforting receptionist i've ever encountered. Soon I was introduced to Matthew who put me in a better mood by narrowing down the choices i had been thinking of trying by running his hands through my hair and saying, OK Ive know what you need! I laughed thinking, "you do huh? I hope so" . . . Well he did he was amazing, great color and a cut i thought would not work on me but it was perfect, how he knew Im not sure, but sooo thankful.

Great experience and I will start recommendations, but The only thing that was a little unnerving didnt come from Mathew but from another stylist. There cubicles are very close together and the stylist close to us was carrying on the whole time rather loudly with her client. I was incensed that the stylist wasnt professional enough to keep the conversation at an acceptable level and I dont really want to hear about some issues, i really want to just concentrate on my stylist NOT THE OTHER ones.

My stylist handled it well, Made eye contact with me in the mirror as if to say, "Im so sorry" and that made it a little better in the end.

Loved the overall experience though - My hair has never been better - Thank you to Mathew at Pure

DO not GO!

by lb333

This salon and spa is horrible! They are rude and not helpful whatsoever! My pedicure was cheap looking and I could have paid half the amount at another place. I would never recommend this place!

Great Hair Cut

by BendBA

I'm usually not too picky about my haircuts, but once you get a real haircut from one of these highly trained stylists you never go back. Alex is the best stylist I've ever used and drive from Bend to get my haircuts there exclusively.

You will be welcomed and have your coat taken properly and given the whole Aveda experience.

Many Kudos to Alex and Pure !

Wonderful friendly salon

by charmrose

I just moved to Portland from Maryland and after a cross country drive, my hair needed help. I was really worried because I completely loved my previous salon and stylist. I found Pure because it is close to my house and I am so happy that I went there.

The receptionist is friendly and Melissa my stylist was the best. She completely talked me through all of my choices and really listened to what I wanted. I decided to cut my hair really short and she was super supportive (if you've ever gone short, you know how even though you made the choice losing all that hair is traumatic.) She is also great to talk to. You feel like you are hanging out with a friend.

I have gone back a second time and it was also great. When I need my next trim and color I am definitely calling to make an appointment with Melissa. When I paid I also had the receptionist say I was being generous with my tip, so I suppose they say that to everyone (though my tip was over 20% because Melissa is worth it). I will continue to go to this salon as long as I live in Portland and I would recommend it to anyone.

Incredible customer service

by Meowsers

Once I get the idea in my head that I want to get my haircut, I need it done, NOW. I use Google maps for everything since I have a GPS locater on my iPhone, and I search for conveniences within a 5 mile radius of me since I like to bike everywhere. Looking for somewhere affordable and incredible in quality between the Lloyd District (where I work) and Laurelhurst (where I live) was my only criteria. I found dozens and dozens of places, many of which were recommended by my friends from all over SE and NE Portland. But a little known Aveda salon on Broadway is where I ended up, and won the jackpot.

I must have called a few min. within closing, but a stylist had come in to drop off a new hair dryer (or "toy" as he called it) he had just bought, and he agreed to wait for me. I busted my butt down there as fast as I could and had an enjoyable, relaxing, conversational time getting my scalp massaged, all the products explained to me as we went, but not in a naggy way, it was only because I asked.

Mathew at Pure Aveda on Broadway is the best hair experience I have ever had. He gave me the perfect cut, asked me how I wanted things done as we went along, and went WAY out of his way to stay super super late for my selfish "now now now" neediness. I have never ever booked a 2nd appointment while leaving a salon before, and I went ahead and locked one in for four weeks out when I was leaving. The receptionist was obviously new (when I called, someone was annoying the hell out of me, whispering in her ear the whole time), but she was super charming and patient and had to stay late as well because of me. I would recommend Mathew to anybody and everybody (unless you make it harder for me to book him!). He has expert skills - did my whole haircut, which I usually swear must be done with a razor, with his shears, and it looks INCREDIBLE. I think the razor is bad for your tips too, right? I don't really know.... Love Pure.

 • Pros: The salon was not nearly as expensive as Sugar Labs across the street
 • Cons: None that I can say

horrible customer service, try somewhere else

by jburda

i love the aveda products and decided to try out pure since it is by my house. I had an appt at 2, but it actually didn't start until 2:40. Finally my hair was cut and colored, but my stylist had to stop and go wax someones eyebrows while i sat even longer. Then at the end i didn't tip as much as i normally would because of all of this and the manager, says " thanks for being so generous maam". At the end of it all I was there for 4 hours and gave them $200. I would stay away from pure salon if you want to be treated with any respect. Guess its back to Dosha until I can find somewhere else. Horrible customer service!!!!! No stars

Loved it! Bravo!!!

by Lesliecammeron

I recently moved from Dallas to Portland and I love it! I was recommended by a neighbor who loves Pure Salon & Spa so I thought I would give them a try and BOY was she RIGHT this is a great place with heplful and really nice people, I mean all of them from the front desk gal to the Stylist (Melissa) to my Waxing gal (Alex) to the Salon Manager (can't remember her name...sorry)! What I liked about Pure (besides all the friendly people) was the professional environment. I liked the fact that they have a full extensive menu of service and I respect the fact they have a 24 hour cancelation policy, because I too work in a client based business and if my clients dont give me enough time to fill that spot I can not occommodate other clients who can make their appointed times.

The Salon & Spa is very Clean and Beautiful, my services where on time and they made me feel very welcome by offering me hot tea. Melissa really listened to what I wanted done with my hair, I have very long and straight (not to mention fine hair) hair that just seems to hang. Melissa gave me the best style I have ever had and now my hair looks and feel amazing! Alex was the ONLY ONE whose has ever been able to wax my brows without it being so painful! Bravo Alex! I will be back again and again!

Thank you all for such a lovely experience.

Customer for years, cancel one appointment and get gouged

by cfreitag

I have been a fan and customer of this salon for years, recommending it to several friends and family. I have gotten both haircuts and waxing from Kelley (fabulous!) but today had to cancel due to an emergency meeting at work. I called at 5 pm to change my appointment which was at 1 pm the following day. Because it wasn't quite 24 hours notice, a 15% charge would be tacked onto my next visit. Is that how you treat loyal customers? Just the last time I was in there I had to wait 35 minutes between my waxing and brow trim that were supposed to be back-to-back to accommodate them. I have never canceled an appointment and don't make a practice of shuffling things around to inconvenience the hardworking staff.

Rethink your customer service or be gobbled up by the 400 other Aveda salons in Portland.

 • Pros: Convenient location, quality products and staff

Don't waste your money!

by melanietroy

over priced, poor quality. Aveda is a chain and it feels like one. Costumer service was awful. I would try other venues before this one. I won't be going back.

Amazing Stylist Found

by bmullin2

I just wanted to take some time to comment on the great hair color i received there at Pure. I was referred by a team member to Mathew and cannot say enough positives about his style, service and technique. He got me back to a very healthy tone that i thought was gone for good. Thank you Mathew - and thank you Pure.
