Novice and experienced yogis can be found renewing their mind, body and soul at this Zen-influenced studio.

by Ashley Gartland

In Short
This contemporary, spacious studio strikes a balance between a dedicated yoga sanctuary and chic fitness studio. Flowing architecture is complemented by wood beams, plenty of hanging lights and fresh orchids displayed along one red wall. A tranquil pond surrounded by large foliage is the studio's focal point. This idyllic charm and its shoeless culture attract devotees and well-heeled neighborhood locals. Top teachers offer classes in hot (Bikram) yoga, power vinyasa, hatha yoga, Pilates and specialty workshops.

location is great, that is about it

by dogstar2000

Classses are too full. Facility is dirty. Restaurant noise carries into studios, which is distracting. Front desk staff is not very friendly.

they only have location going for them

by namaste0417

i agree with another review that said "i don't know what all of the hype is about." this place is not clean (in fact the carpets stink badly!), the staff is not friendly, and many of the instructors have an enormous ego. yoga pearl is not at all a warm or welcoming environment. if it wasn't for having a small cafe and a great location, i don't this this business would last.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: attitude, dirty

Yikes, better do it their way after greeting you with a half scowl smile!

by cmcarthy

I just don't see what the big deal is. Yes, they have a lot of classes and yes, the space is really large. But it still matters how you treat people, because, believe it or not, someone may not come back, and so forth.

I have been to many yoga studios all over the country. This one by far has the least friendly staff up front. At my favorite place in the northeast, you are always greeted warmly and treated nicely. And I don't expect shiny happy people being fake holding hands, etc, but c'mon, you are a yoga studio, don't make me feel like I am bothering you before I even get class...

And speaklng of class, you better put those hands together in your warrior one or else- "hands together!!!" "look up at your hands!" no matter if you have neck issues, which was not asked at the beginning of class.

Remember the soup n*zi on seinfeld? I sorta got that feeling the other day when I was afraid for not straining my already injured neck to look at my hands.

But not all the teachers are like that. Some are friendly and helpful. Some treat class like a standup act too and tell interesting, irrelevant stories while you're in child's pose.

Just don't buy a package before you check it out. I think that you can find other friendlier, more balanced, zen-like places that don't make you feel more stressed just by being there, and let you keep you hands apart in your warrior if you want.

  • Pros: some classes/instructors quite good
  • Cons: atmosphere is a little dank, instructors can be muy bossy, have to pay for a mat

What a place

by orony23

Zen out man! this is a terrific place to pick up your karishna. Classes and programs galore - and everyone is serious about yoga. Instructors are all terrific and know what they're doing -I really like Jana's classes. The facility is a timeless work of art - and their ventilation is fantastic (none of this let's get intimate with someone bo stuff.) They have other great supplementary services too... massage, integrative therapy- (check out Lucy Egen) and a wonderful restaurant- Blossoming Lotus... I usually go for my favorite green juice after each session.

  • Pros: Great selection / excellent instructions
  • Cons: Can be pricey

Yoga in the Pearl has the best beginner workshop for non yoga people to get exposed to different types of yoga, and gain the confidence to take other classes. It was not intimidating at all.

  • Pros: Friendly People, Relaxing, Good Workout

Healing

by dposka

I've attended various yoga studios around the Portland area for various sport induced injuries, but I couldn't find the right balance to heal myself....until I discovered The Pearl. Atmosphere, massage, different styles of yoga, instructors, they are absolutely the best. Strong recommendation!

  • Pros: Instructors, Knowledge, Atmosphere
