With an owner who knows her stuff, is very bright, and won't waste your time. The holiday postcards that she did for my firm were first rate! As someone who operates a business, I appreciate being able to get what I need, when I need it, right the first time! While there is certainly lots of stuff displayed, I find it quite enjoyable to peruse the aisles and see what assundry items are available. There always seems to be some really cool new "thing" in the store every time I visit. I highly recommend The Grand Papery!
Pros: Great Service, Great Product, very accessible location

Having recently read the reviews, after shopping at the GP, I was somewhat dismayed. My assumption is that the few authors have an axe to grind or want more service than a small store owner generally can give. My experience was quite the opposite. I had in mind the invitations I wanted. The owner, giving me access to multiple invitation books (more than I've found in the PDX area), gave me time and direction to come up with an invitation I wanted, without the pressure to upsell. Her ideas were right on and the invitation turned out amazingly well. What a blast of fresh air. As far as finding that just right gift, her store is full of everything imaginable. While some may call it clutter, thank god, I call it choices. From jewelry to humerous frige magnets its there. I will continue to drive across town to shop at the GP. You should too.
Pros: options in paper and gifts

The Grand Papery has a wonderful idea of customizing invitations, however in my opinion the store is way too cluttered! They should simply stick to what their name states-paper. The entire store is cluttered with so many other things that it is hard to find anything of interest. There are things on the floor because the shelves are too packed. It seems she is copying what the other stores provide, trying to compete. She needs to stick with the invitations, wrapping paper, and cards. Also when I was there I was not greeted by any of the employees. When I was ready to make a purchase, the owner walked by me 3 times without asking me if I needed help or if I was ready to purchase. When she finally stopped she was very abrasive and seemed bothered with having to wait on me. I was not impressed with the store layout, the clutter or the customer service.
Cons: too cluttered, too many ideas going on in the store, too distracting

This store is awesome! The owner is an inspired buyer, and a former high powered marketing executive from San Francisco. She has a great eye for design and will help her customers create invitations which people will talk about and remember for years! She designed an invitation to a big wine country party for me and people tell me they saved the card because they loved it so much and it's been nine months since the party! Plus there are wonderful gifts for everyone. And cards. Purses. Jewelry. gifts for babies, teenagers, customers, and inspirations for the people you love. Its really fun.
Pros: Chance to buy the unusual, or traditional all in the same store. Parking, personal service

I went in to order some invitations. The owner was such a disgrace re her customer service that I walked out. She made me feel like I was completely wasting her time (I was only there for half an hour going through books - not that long). When ordering invitations (especially spending $400+), I wanted to make sure the invites were perfect and what I wanted (look, price, etc.). So, the owner showed me about five options. When I asked to recap a price on a previous one she showed me, she "grunted" and rolled her eyes stating she would have to look it up again. Then, she challenged me on something I really wanted on the invitations (a photo printed on the invite vs. being glued on) and kept challenging me in a condescending manner. The last draw was stating she would have to make a phone call to check on a price on an invitation I was interested in - she stated to me, in a very irritated way, "you go ahead and ponder what you want, THEN I'll make a phone call when you make up your mind." And, she walked off. As I walked out, no one even acknowledged me leaving or said anything. I was prepared to spend a lot of money there when I walked in. Too bad their customer service, the Owner, lost business, again! Find another store that will appreciate your business!

I too have had wonderful shopping experiences at the Grand Papery. I had my wedding invitations done there and they turned out great. But the owner is pretty abrasive and, in my opinion, rude. I have continued to shop there because it's down the street from my house and the items they sell are unique, fun and charming. But the customer service is a turn off.
Pros: location
Cons: customer service

I recently purchased my wedding invitations from the Grand Papery and the products are great. I had a less than pleasant experience with the owner of the store and found that she needs to improve her attitude towards her customers. The staff working in the store were helpful, friendly, and supportive.
