Excellent treats, coffee, atmosphere

I haven't had a bad treat, salad, or sandwich here. The coffee is worthy of "writing home" about. However, I almost always expect a long line and table wait there. I avoid busy times.

Don't expect to get out of the joint for a bargain, but I promise the flavors and overall quality of the food is worth the price. Once, I ordered a salad, and they forgot my order, altogether. Although, it was a busy day and that was an anomoly out of the many visits I've made there.

In particular, I like the large, rectangular, community style table. Shared tables like that aren't uncommon in Europe, and I think it's a great way to bring folks together, as opposed to our typical American style of keeping isolated and gated from the mix of society. I've had some superb, impromptu discussions with total strangers at that table regarding all manner of topics -- usuallly praise on the food, and discussions about local politics or other current events.

• Pros: great flavors, light and cheery place
• Cons: expensive, frequent lines, full tables

Appearances can be Deceiving

Upon arrival, St. Honore appeared to be unique, warm and a place of quality. However, myself and my 3 guests were soon in for a rude awakening. We discovered that the young staff were rude and short and curt, the food was very overpriced for the poor quality, small amount and ordinary presentation. In addition, while dining we noticed approximately 4 small brown pests (not allowed to use the R--ch-s word in this write-up) running under our table close to the food service counter. Furthermore, while getting up to leave, I noticed one of the male bakers pick his nose while handling food. I DO NOT recommend this overrated bakery to anyone and will not return.

• Pros: The smell of fresh bread...
• Cons: Small brown pests, Poor Hygene, Overpriced, Rude Staff...

Go Here!

The food is delicious, the pastries are to DIE for. If you're in the mood for some French pastries, or just pastries in general, go. It's a cute little place and the employees are nice. The food is a teensy bit on the expensive side, but it's the alphabet district area, so what do you expect? Only bad thing about this place is that it's crowded and it might take a bit to find a seat.

Good Food and Friendly People : )

I really would recommend this place to everyone who loves French food. They are very nice people and I have gone many times to eat there. The food is delicious and the people are nice to suggest new things. It is not a restaurant, but a place to go to have a coffee and a light snack or sandwich. Again, the food is very delicious and I cannot wait to go to France. : )

I love it!

I live in the neighborhood and stop in quite a bit. Great pastries, great espresso, and nice staff. It gets really busy on weekends and around lunch time, so I stop in on my way home from work when it is nice and quiet!

Rude Owner & High Prices!

Although the atmosphere is quaint and reminds us of France, the boulangerie , of course, lacks modesty. The prices are high, and the owner's attitude doesn't reflect the "kind" French culture. Some time ago, our small group wasn't welcomed on the premises even if we ordered some pastries, tea, and coffee. Good food items can be found at Ken's Artisan Bakery, amongst others, and the service is consistent. Having a taste of France is also feeling at ease while enjoying what you have just ordered. This wasn't the case about three years ago at the Thurman location. We now go to Ken's Artisan Bakery or the Pearl Bakery. Please spend your money somewhere else if you can.

I'm learning french right now and my parents thought it would be cool to take my family out to st honore for my birthday. they said they closed at 5 or 6 (i cant remember) and it was either 4:45 or 5:45 and they would not serve us. They were very rude to me and my family and they pretty much ruined the night, not to mention... my whole birthday. I would definately not reccoment going here. Obviously they dont care if their customers are happy if they wont serve them 15 minutes before they actually close!

Smells Like Heaven

We went twice last week and it was not very crowded and smelled heavenly. You can watch the guy spin the oven and take out the fresh bread and buns. Coffee was fantastic, got two cups though I am not usually a coffee drinker. Great place for your morning coffee and there is a great co-op market across the street if you need to do some light shopping after breakfast.

Disappointed

Not worth it. Especially with Ken's so close by. The croissants taste like Costco croissants and the place reeks of fabrication. Some of the cold pastries are decent if you are used to eating "Starbucks - quality" and the atmosphere looks nice visually but if its fresh, quality, authentic pastries you are after, walk the extra few blocks. I have visited France more than once and this place just doesn't cut it. Case closed.

Quaint, inexpensive, and delicious food for the price

I have been there 2x, once with a friend and once with my husband. I LOVE the Quiche Lorraine. My husband had a spinach/cheese patry filled entree which he said he did not like because it tasted too healthy. So if healthy-tasting suits you, get it. He also had the turkey and cheese croissant and loved it. I also have had their Monsieur ___ (basically, melted ham and cheese). We also really loved the strawberry mille feulle dessert. This place gets crowded around lunch time so you occasionally have to grab a seat if you can. It draws in a mixture of people from young to older, from yuppies to blue collars, etc. It has this energetic vibe as people all around are engaged in ongoing and (seemlingly pleasant) conversations, inside and outside the restaurant. The cashiers are friendly and the food comes out in reasonable time.

Try it out!

Tastes good, but it ends there.

The first time I went here I wanted a turkey sandwich. I stepped up, and asked for exactly that. They told me they do not sell sandwiches. Confused I looked into their display and pointed to what looked like a turkey sandwich. They told me it was a Panni, not a sandwich. Seriously?

Second time I went there it was with my boss and a few co-workers. We tried asking the lady behind the counter what was in certain pastries. She had no idea. We ended up getting almond Croissants because at least we know what those are. They were yummy though.

Today I decided to give it a third chance. I ordered a bowl of soup to go. First of all, a simple bowl of soup is $5.50. So it better be the best soup in the entire planet. I then arrive back at the office and open it up. The "bowl" is hardly halfway full! I asked my coworker if that was normal and she said no it should be full. I mean, it was MAYBE 8oz of soup, for $5.50!?!?! Are they kidding? So she returned it when she went to get her lunch and they did give us a free pastry to make up for mistake. So at least there is that. But what made it even crazier, is when my co-worker got back, her "sandwich" was not what she ordered. But she was not about to go back again.

Over all, they are mean, rude, unknowledgeable and overpriced. On the upside, almost all of what they serve tastes good. So if you don't mind not getting what you ordered or being treated like dirt, then try the Strawberry Mille Feuilles.
