Stupidity
by ale017
I took there a really nice vintage leather and beads belt for changing the belt buckle.
I wanted to fit a bakelite 1930's one. It did look a little too big and I pointed that out to him, but changing belt buckle not being my job I didn't realize the part going through the holes was actually really big.
Now, if changing belt buckle is your job and you realize to fit it you will have to make holes nearly as big as the belt would not cross your mind to double check with your client before doing it, considering I left you my number?
I never used them before, read loads of good reviews and thought to give it a try, they are probably excellent with heels and rubber soles but not the right people for jobs asking a little bit more consideration, knowledge and understanding.
Hre Ghtr Great repair work and nice people!

I've been going to Dorian's for about 4 years and have never been disappointed. They do an incredible job with their repairs, whether it's a simple heel cap replacement or something more complicated. Their turnaround time is a bit lengthy at times but a please and thank you go a long ways in getting something done by the date you need it. They always call the minute your shoes are ready and they've never been been done later than promised. And their prices are incredibly reasonable.
Really nice repair work, non-existent customer service
by afillmore2481
Very nice repair work and reasonable prices. Dorian's completely resoled/mended a pair of nice leather boots from Italy and I was very impressed with the quality of the repair - my boots looked brand new again.
However, as noted in other reviews, there is definitely NO customer service and work usually takes at least 2-3 weeks. If you can deal with that side of things, then I'd say the quality of the repair makes up for the other areas where Dorian's is lacking.
- Pros: Quality of repair, cost, knowledge/suggestions about what to do to shoes
- Cons: No customer service, length of time needed, finishing on time
Worst Shoe Repair Shop In Portland
by sneedsam
There are plenty of other shoe repair shops downtown, do yourself a favor and take your shoes anywhere else but Dorian's. It takes weeks to get anything repaired. They quote you 2 weeks but really take 3 because they over promise and under delievery. When the day comes to pick up your stuff they'll call you at the last minute to tell you they need more time. So the next day, when you go to pick up your stuff the following day it is still not ready. Read the other 1 star reviews, they are spot on. Dorian's lame excuse is they are backed up . . . Here's a piece of advice for Dorian, keep your word by either working harder and/or working longer.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Quality, Customer Service, Workmanship, Hours, Basically Everything
You can trust them with your designer shoes
by chaos127pdx
After impulsively buying some Manolo Blahnik's in New York, I wanted to get them stretched a bit. I probably needed a half size bigger, but as I said, impulse buy (and only pair in the store). I asked around for referrals from friends and co-workers--I didn't want to just take them anywhere, as stretching is an overnight process and I didn't want them to "disappear." My good friend who works at Nordstrom's said her co-workers who have nice designer shoes recommened Dorian's. The reviews on here seemed good over-all too.
The staff were great and Dorian himself explained that they just stretch them a little bit at a time, as you can't un-stretch if it's more room than you need. But, if you find that you need more room, they'd stretch them again for free. I did end up going back last week (7 monthes later) to have them stretched again. Couldn't quite get there on my own. The shoes are just right now. As some people have commented, Dorian does have a sarcastic sense of humor, but so I do, so I was fine. Just think of it from his stance: If you worked there everyday for several years and constantly had people saying they were there to "pick up the black shoes" it'd get kind of tiring after a while. Save your receipt stub and just hand that over instead. They're very knowledgible and helpful.
- Pros: Shoe stretching, knowledge and professionalism of staff
- Cons: Parking isn't convenient for those quick lunch-break trips - use the MAX
Perfect Repairs!
by Margopearl
I went to this shop based on reviews posted here. I wanted to add that I couldn't have had a better experience. I brought in two pairs of shoes, both in really bad shape, with ground down heels, extremely worn soles and peeling leather. The clerk went over each pair, detailing all the repairs needed and the price for each one. They gave me a time and date for pick up, about a week later. They finished earlier then expected and called me the day they were ready to let me know. When the clerk pulled my shoes out of the bag I was so happy with them I gasped. My boots look absolutely brand new with a perfectly constructed new heel and a subtle, careful polish. My pumps, which are an unusual color, had peeling leather on the heel which he warned me they couldn't replace. However, they carefully trimmed and glued the leather back into place, brought the heel covering a little higher and succeded in making the heels match. I found the price to be reasonable, especially since having the shoes replaced would have cost me two or three times as much. Everyone there is very friendly and non-judgemental. I will definitely return!
- Pros: Excellent repairs, friendly staff.
- Cons: Not my favorite part of downtown, a little grim and unsavory.
SHOE IN NEED... A FRIEND INDEED!!!!!

Good Quality, Not So Great Customer Service
by roseroserose
I had a similar experience here that the women with the purse did... dropped off a pair of boots to be fixed, they called me about 20 minutes before they were supposed to be done to tell me that they wouldn't be and to come back after 3 the next day. That's fine, things come up. The next day I went back down there after 3 on my break and was told they still weren't done. They didn't call me to tell me so I was a little exasperated, thinking I went down there for nothing... but it turned out they only needed to complete some finishing touches so I waited for 15 minutes and then got them, without any apology from the staff.
I've had other shoes repaired there that they did a good job on without the bad service, so good quality, but I did stop going there after that incident.
best repair shop in town
by thebestshellhead
This is the best shoe repair shop in town, hands down. I have destroyed countless pairs of very extreme heels (high platforms, dom and sub styles) working in them and they have consistently been able to provide prompt service and treat customers extremely professionally. I saw the review here complaining about the purse not being ready on time -- did you give them your phone number? They have always been courteous and quick about calling me if there is any problem with my order. And maybe because I come in often, they often throw in free repair details! (Yes, they remember you!)
Especially in a city like Portland, it's fantastic to have a store where you can get low-cost, non-judgemental and very quick shoe repair done in the heart of downtown. I've recommended countless friends to this store and they have all commented about what a great experience it is.
